View Full Version : Genesis pirates and Megadrive 2 - do I bother?

I saw a stack of Sega Genesis (or Megadrive) pirates the other day with a Megadrive 2 console (looks just like a Genesis.)
I didn't recognize anything as unreleased. A couple are multicarts. Should I bother picking them up at $5 apiece loose? Megadrives are more a novelty in the US than something valuable anywhere.
I wouldn't want to keep these (my Genesis collecting bug is marginal at best)- and I don't bother picking stuff up without making double what I invested. As I understand it, Genesis pirates are less valuable but more cool. So this is really a 'What is it worth' post.

How d'ya know they're pirates?
Plus, is the cart slot on the MD2 red? Official markings?

Crap, I read that as "a stack of Genesis Pirates! for $5 each." :eek 2: I was gonna have you pick me up about 10 copies for eBay. LOL

First off, why do I care about the cart slot? Color me uninitiated.
And they all had glossy bizzare labels, some were 4 in 1s, and some had cart case variants.
So, guys, are Genesis pirates worth a few dollars more than $5? Or does someone like to trade for them to the tune of much more than $5?

I'd buy them if I saw them, but that's because I happen to find pirate stuff interesting and sometimes hilarious. If you do go buy 'em, I'd probably buy some from you.

The official Japanese MD2 has a red cartridge slot cover - the part that swings inward - but beside that I believe it's mostly the same as a regular Genesis 2. Unfortunately, I don't own that particular model, so that's the only thing I'd be able to point out to look for.
As for those games, sounds like you know what you're talking about there.
My thoughts - snag the MD2, leave the games unless you're interested in seeing what's on them (I might do such a thing myself). The MD2 should certainly be worth it, though.
what games were they? if there were any cool hacks, they might be worth picking up to resell.
