View Full Version : Not enjoying Fable

PyroPenguin

Thanks to the the desicion makers at Gamestop I don't get to enjoy Fable until about 8 tonight. Someone decided instead of sending the game by plane like they normally do that they would save some dollars and send it by truck. So the truck broke down. Now instead of getting it at 2 like I planned I have to wait until 8. Thanks Gamestop.

I bet it will be $19.99 a year from now, right about the time I'd be ready to play it. :)

Um, I don't think it is "officially" released until tomorrow. Atleast Target, Toys R Us, Walmart, etc. isn't getting it until then.

Most Gamestops were hand carrying it to stores a night early (today). Shit happens in life, just grin and bear it.

yar even if it does wind up at $34.99 at frys I probably won't get it. I got too many other games to play now, and many more on the way.

Gamerush was supposed to get it today, and they didn't, which makes me sad. That's where my pre-order is. Which, I'll add, I paid a paltry $28 for with a little bit of creative GameRush scamming.

The last time I spent $50 for a game was for Metroid Prime. With tons of unplayed first rate games at my shelves, I wait very, very patiently for a $20 price even for a must-have like Fable.

Last week I got Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Star Wars KOTOR, and Read Dead Revolver for $20 each. It's great to pay so little for great games unlike the $50 and $60 we spent for SNES games.

I think I go for Read Dead Revolver next, I'm really curious how the neglected Western genre does in a videogame. :)

Meh. Looks like all of the neatness Fable promised got stripped down into "if you act evil, you look scary." It's a personal pet peeve of mine when a game that's set up so the main character is supposed to be able to reflect the player herself give you no choice but to play as a male. Usually, male main characters don't bother me. It's only when the character is supposed to be me. Baldur's Gate is a good example of how to do it right.

Fable looks absolutely great. However, by the time I get an Xbox, It'll be down to $20 or so. In the meantime, I'll just mooch off my friend's xbox.

Actually I agree with you. I'd like to see more customization when the character is supposed to reflect the player, and gender seems like it should be a no brainer. For instance, I have a large slightly overweight stature. It would be cool if my body type in a game could reflect that, rather than choosing from skinny as hell or muscle-bound.

On the other hand, you CAN get overweight in Fable (if only for a few minutes) and I like the vast customization for the male hero. Being a male, it doesn't bother me. But being a female, I can see why it would bother you.

I'm with all of those that said they were waiting until it's $19.99. Too many good games already sitting on my shelves, waiting to be played and beaten. And I'm extremely hyped about Fable too...

Can't blame you there. Maybe that's one the things the developers had to strip down from the orginial plans, hense the last delay before shipping out.

I never would have though there would be so many cheap gamers on here, but then you think about all the great games coming out, and there's really no time to play them all right when they come out, unless you're nuts.

It is nice having titles drop consistently in price though. But then you never get it right when it comes out. Of course, being on the cutting edge isn't a high priority for classic gamers...

i totally agree with you here...i read an interview with the guy and he felt really bad about not havin females, or dark skinned ppl...but hell the game took 4 years its a major accomplishment....hes sayin for Fable 2 he wants to fix those things...im still gunna love Fable (im a white male) but it would have been nice to see the option was there...

If the game is so awesome, tell me what the big deal is besides 'look different depending on how you act" - defend it in short. Right now Wipeout Pure is higher on my want list, and that doesnt even have a release date.

Not to totally derail the thread: Red Dead is pretty cool. The combat can be a bit cheap at times and the camera awkward but overall it's a fun game.

As for Fable: this is something I'm going to rent. It doesn't sound that open ended and the NPC outlook on the player has been done before (Elder Scrolls series).

After reading this thread, why am I having "IS MADDEN THERE YET???," "YOU GOT THAT MADDEN GAME YET," and "THANK YOU FOR CALLING GAMESTOP, YOUR MADDEN 2005 HEADQUARTERS" x10000 flashbacks. *shudders*

I loathe big release dates, due to the fact that rabid fans frighten me and therapy is not cheap.

OMG please tell me this isn't true. I hope your holiness demanded at least a partial refund and maybe a beheading from the peasants at Gamestop for making his royal highness wait an additional 6 hours.

So you had to make an extra trip to the store later that day to get your game big f'ing deal. At least you are still able to get it and play it. In the past few weeks I've learned to put things in perspective. In the wake of hurricanes Charley and Frances there are still a few thousand people here in Central Florida without power. No A/C in Florida in the middle of summer = cranky family and extra cranky teenage kids.

Just be happy you are safe and you will have your game to play whenever it arrives at the store.

Copernicus check, let's see, um nope the universe does not rotate around PyroPenguin. (great here come the clerics to burn the Heretic).

19.90 would be a perfect price for it
I wouldn't waste more than 20 dollars/euros/whatever for an action/adventure which can be finished in less than 15 hours.
I also highly convict the fact that you are able to kill women(and even whole villages) for fun. :o

I'm sure soccer moms would have something to say on that as well. Though I'd think the developers would put some kind of fail-safe in for those events. *shrug

I hear that Fable is good, just not the 10 out of 10 they were claiming it to be. Hell, even GMR gave it a 8 out of 10. I dont believe the hype, espically from Microsoft, who is STARVING for console exclusives. Dont get me wrong, I am sure that it is good, but what kind of put me in the meh vote is the character models and stripped down gameplay from what they were orginally going to do. Yeah, I'll eventually get it, but again I am like alot of others here, probably into my retro games just as much. I have a whole library of games on my shelves that are just screaming to play. I think I will wait, save my money, and pay less...espically after the holiday bloodbath. I am looking forward to KOTR II, Halo 2, Battlefront more, and I am on a budget due to CGE.

Two points:

1.) Fable came in today. Got it, love it, well and truly worth the paltry $28 I spent. Doubting that I can beat it having done everything in 15 hours, but we'll see. I was one of the people that felt this game was going to be a big failure, but gradually my opinion changed. I still had doubts when I bought it, but they've all been alleviated now. This game is well and truly something special.

2.) In regards to "classic gamer": To quote a famous play, "people are worse off than Willy Loman". No matter how bad the situation, someone always has it worse. Most of my family's in Florida. Their house got wrecked. Yes, that sucks. But you know what? Over in Sudan there's a child who's entire family was just slaughtered before his eyes. Does that mean my grandparents' house getting destroyed isn't a big deal? No matter how poor your current situation, someone always has it worse. This does not mean that your personal situation is not bad, nor does it invalidate complaints.
