Yes, if you want a great system for fighters, go with dreamcast. It's got Power stone 2, Street Fighter III, Marvel vs. capcom 2, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Virtual on, and probably tons of others I'm forgetting. Not to mention that dreamcasts can be gotten rather cheaply.

While PS2/PSX does have a lot more fighters, the ones on Dreamcast are much better. Plus a DC can be had for around $20. The best fighters average around $20-$25, but its well justified.

Are u speaking of a new DC? and also how much is the DC arcade stick?

Used. You would be pretty pressed to find a new DC these days, at least for only $20. Arcade sticks depend entirely on the person who is selling. I've seen the offical agetec stick (green buttons) range from $10 to $30.

for the the game play i would go with the DC, cause for the great values
if u got a deeper pockets and got the $$ pick up a neogeo to play some SNK titles (AES/MVS) arcade style .. i think there is a -SuperGun- guy @ DP that can hook u UP, look in the buy N sell section...
-buy a dreamcast its cheap and it got a great selection of games

If you really want a fighting console then the Neo Geo is what you want. If that is way out of your budget then yeah a DC is good and also a Saturn would be good.

Please guys don't lie and say the neogeo beats the ps2 when it comes to fighting games. The ps2 has a much larger variety of fighting games on it. The neogeo has such a small selection compared to the ps2. Hell it even has some ne geo games on it for much cheaper. I say go for ps2 unless you have alot of money to spend.
I'll say this before the neogeo fanboys try and flame me. When I say "selection" I mean the games are more varied rather than the same couple of franchises.

yes, the system that is king of all fighting games,Neogeo, doesnt have as large a selection as sony, the system who, if they had it there way, would kill 2D games.
before you make a comment like that, THINK
sega saturn is easier and cheaper to collect for, but Neogeo will always reign king of fighting games.

well when he said "games such as Street Fighter" 2D fighter popped in my head followed by Neo Geo. If he had said "games such as Tekken" I'm sure I would have said PS2. I'm not a fanboy just trying to give advise.

Actually the Neo Geo has an impressive selection of fighting games. Most of them are VERY good. I'm quite ashamed I forgot about it. Unfortunately, its not in the price realm of most collectors.
I'll stress it again. Quality over quantity.

I say it depends on what kind of fighters you like. Im mostly into 3D fighters. So i went with the PS2. If 2D's your fancy, I would go with the Saturn.

If you want fighting on the go, get a Neo Geo Pocket Color. It's got a stick and great fighters, such as Match Of The Millenium, The Last Blade, Samurai Shodown! 2, and King of Fighters R2, plus much more.

Neo Geo, easily. However, if you gotta have Capcom stuff, go with the Saturn. Best of both worlds, albeit the ports aren't arcade perfect.
Keep in mind that I say this with the mind set that you'd be willing to import (it's not like language makes a big difference in fighters). I don't know about the Neo Geo home system, but the Japanese MVS carts are considerably cheaper than the US versions (and you can play the games in English regardless). With the Saturn, don't even bother if you're not going to import. All the best ones only came out in Japan.

Japanese AES are cheaper most of the time and are readily available even in the states. Definately the system to get into for fighters. And not for just a *few* franchises, there are many many good Neo fighters. Obviously the system doesn't have the largest library in the world, but considering the percentage of games that are fighters, it's the system I'd recommend for you.

Well call me dated, but IMO the Genesis has the most and the best selection of fighting games, "such as Street Fighter". Just think of it as the poor man's Neo Geo. I'm real surprised that nobody else mentioned this as an option yet.
Art of Fighting
Ballz
Beast Wrestler
Budokan
Clay Fighter
Cyborg Justice
Deadly Moves
Eternal Champions
Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury 2
Fighting Masters
Ka-Ge-Ki
King of the Monsters
King of the Monsters 2
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat 3
Pit Fighter
Primal Rage
Samurai Shodown
Saturday Night Slam Masters
Shaq Fu
Slaughter Sport
Street Fighter 2
Street Smart
Super Street Fighter 2
TMNT Tournament Fighters
Time Killers
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Weapon Lord
World Heroes
So that's 30+ fighting games already, and I didn't even list all the boxing and wrestling titles. Alot of the Neo Geo library is present and accounted for too. They may be only 16bit, but they're not that far removed from the originals.
Add a Sega CD and a 32X to it, and the total climbs even higher, but I'm not gonna list all of those here for you too. I think that I already made my point. I don't think that any other system has quite as many fighting games as the Genesis does, unless it is the Neo Geo, so if you want quantity there you go.
I know that quality is important too, so in that case the PS2 probably is the best, because as you said you can play all the PS1 fighting games on it also. I prefer the Saturn for the 32bit era, but as Aussie said, don't even bother if you're not gonna import. So you'll be needing a 4-in-1 RAM cart for it too. I like the Dreamcast fighters the best myself, but you'll never get very many, and if you don't import you might as well not bother with that one either.

Dreamcast, only if you get a pair of arcade sticks. Otherwise I'd say Saturn.

NeoGeo reins as the king of fighting games? If he wants variety of games I said go with the ps2 it has almost all types of fighting games on it. Please stop with how 3d games are evil and crap it is very old and tired. Maybe you need to reread my post again. I said the fighting games are more VARIED, as in not the same couple of franchises over and over again.

Ahem...
MVS/AES Fighting games:
3 Count Bout
Aggressors of Dark Kombat
Art of Fighting
Breakers
Double Dragon
Fatal Fury
Fight Fever
Fighter's History Dynamite
Galaxy Fight
Kabuki Klash
King of Fighters
Kizuna Encounter
The Last Blade
Mark of the Wolves
Ninja Master's
Rage of the Dragons
Ragnagard
Samurai Shodown
SNK vs Capcom Chaos
Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer
Waku Waku 7
World Heroes
I don't even think I got them all...
Anyway, I think the Neo Geo's varied enough. I'm not a Neo Geo fanboy or anything, hell, I don't even have an MVS or AES, but I believe the Neo Geo's varied enough. Plus, I bet half of the PS2's fighting games are crap.
Price wise, I think you should go with the PS2 also, and the fact that they are still making games for the PS2 should also make it seem like a better decision, but all in all, the Neo Geo IS the Fighting System.

I would have quote Lone_Monster but that is alot of scrolling!!! I am simply saying that the ps2 is more varied to me. As in that is my opinion. I know all about the neo and was considering getting one but the price point was too much for me to consider.
