View Full Version : Funny Nintendo Story
It's not every day that I run into a non-collector who owns (or owned) all of the Wisdom Tree NES games, sans Sunday Funday.
Today was a pretty typical day in the college dorm for me. I had a few minutes to kill before I left for dinner, and I figured I would play Sunday Funday a bit (thanks dsullo...). I was playing the Fish Fall game, doing rather well.
I had the door to my dorm room open, to air things out a bit. Next thing I know, I glance up and see some guy looking in at me. He didn't say anything to me for a few minutes, just stood there staring at the room. After awhile, he says "That music...are you playing one of those bible games?"
I almost shit myself on the spot. I invited the guy in, and told him that I was indeed playing one of the Wisdom Tree games, Sunday Funday. Curious, I asked him how he knew about them. He responded by telling me that he had Bible Adventures, Exodus, Joshua, Spiritual Warfare, Bible Buffet, and KIng of Kings. He never saw Sunday Funday though.
This dude then said he had to get going, get back to one of the RPGs he was playing in his dorm upstairs.
I just found this to be kind of funny.

I admire the fact that you had your door open playing a NES system. :) BAck when I was in college and grad school (1990-2001) if I had done that, I would have been laughed at. :)
But I remember one room that had a Atari 2600 and they got a fair bit of attention. ;)
We used to have our door open sometimes also, and I noticed the RPG's got attention from some women and the shoot em ups from guys. :D

Interesting-when I was at college in Reno between 1996 and 2000, the NES was even more common amongst the people in the dorms than the PlayStation and N64.

What I've noticed is that you plug in Playstation or N64 or any modern system at a party and nobody gives a rat's butt. Fire up the 2600 and EVERYBODY wants to play. Funny how that works huh?
When my friends come over they don't want to play PS2, I'll tell you that much!

See, I've already gotten stuff stolen from me here (two damn nalgene water bottles, and they were practically stolen from me in front of my eyes) so I really don't want to bring up any more games/systems. I just brought up my PS2 and one of my many extra SNES's. It works for the time being.
Emulation keeps me alive though.

Damn, that brings back memories. I used to have to lock my playstation in a safe to keep my roommates in the dorms from either stealing it or spilling beer in it. Leave your rarities at home.

i have a spare NES at college with me and people will always say that it is awesome and that they want to play....besides halo on the xbox, people would rather play a classic nes game....Dr. Mario, Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 are huge favorites
Classic NES games are very popular where I go to college. Last year they had a few NES game sales, though I was not going here at that point...
During room inspection, I was playing Super Mario Bros. The folks which came in to inspect were like "awesome, Super Mario Bros!"
I guess the thing which took guts on my part was playing a Wisdom Tree game with the door open. I had actually figured that no one would know the difference, since Fish Fall isn't overly religious, except for the passages before each round...boy was I wrong, someone did notice. Haha.

See? Nintendo is missing a huge cash cow. They could realease all NES games on a single GameCube disc, charge $100, and get rich. People love those classics.

i agree 102% about this idea.well maybe a good healthy amount of game like mario allstars for $50 .i work at a used cd store and the amount of people who get excited about nes games never ceases.its weird too cause most people im sure would buy a perfectly good gamecube for $100 if this disc existed.i mean people will buy a NES for $40-$100 just to play mario.

Hmm what college was that? Had you heard of a guy named Moe who had that punk band American't Citizen, or did you ever see IndecisiveYouth or The Jerks play? That's the only person I knew of that attended the university at that time since I was not in Reno then.

They'd rather release them individually on the GBA at $20 a pop. :(

I've long felt that the NES and Genesis should be reissued, and not in the "Plug'n'play" crap; I mean consoles with interchangeable carts. Even systems like the TG-16 have more recognition now, and the old audience has grown up and can afford to buy one if they want. I know I'd buy those games, anyway.

Though I don't think a straight-up re-release of the old systems would necessarily work, I'd like to see an NES or SNES Player for the GameCube. If they were smart, Nintendo would make the access disc a catalog of sorts with game history, full credits (where available) and bonus features.
Then, if they were really smart, they'd make "upgrade discs" for certain games. Imagine the great engine and classic gameplay of Super Mario World running with today's multi-polygonal graphics and Dolby Stereo Surround sound. Or, in Sonic & Knuckles style, add on a whole new set of levels to make the same game brand-new.

Yeah, this story reminds me of when I was in college back in 2000, I brought my NES and that was so popular, espcailly Super Mario Brothers 3. I mean pretty much everyone has played that game, it just seems like every one stayed up playing that one until it was beaten. I think I was the only one that could actually beat it though.
ALso, the N64 with Goldeneye was just as popular, one of my buddies had one a floor up from me.

At UNR, with all but the first year at Canada Hall. Can't say I ever heard of that person or those bands, though.
