I'd say wait for the DS. Unless there's games for the GBA you're just itching to play. get the DS.

Black Dragon, why are you considered the DS Master?

I can definately agree. Besides, I'm sure that Software Etc will do some sort of a trade in on the GBA SP towards the DS (like they did with the GBA towards the GBA SP). Not that it matters in this life anyway.

You should wait until the DS comes out... if you can. I know that I personally wouldn't be able to stand living without a GBA/SP for a month or more.

For those who don't know,

1) The DS is called Nintendo DS NOT Gameboy DS because its nintendo's "Third Pillar" which means new system between the categories of consoles and GB systems.

2) Even know the DS is backwards compatible With GBA games its Only with GBA games no GBC or GB games because these are two new processors the ARM9 and the ARM7 processor because using other older processor would slow down the DS's game play, 3D, and make the system more bulky and so.
But in about 3 to 5 months after the DS is released some Third party company will probably release a accessory that will allow those games on it!

see this is why I call myself the DS master on these forums LOL

all for now 8-)

The thing about waiting for a DS is that no-one knows exactly when it's launching. Considering the sheer lack of hype or advertising from Ninty (not that there's anything new there!) I wouldn't hold yer breath. The November date is approaching pretty quickly and still nothing concrete as regards to price etc. At least you know that the SP is out already and is pretty cheap - as well as being a really good machine.

Well at the moment I have no intrest in the DS (that of course could change over time). I would get an SP now or later it has an nice size and feel to it. It fits perfect in my pocket. I think two screens are gimicky. I have more intrest in a PSP but I won't be getting one of those either until all the bugs are fixed.
Buying stuff on launch day is overrated and overpriced get an SP.

I'm the Black Dragon master.

1) He has a Zero avatar from one of the Playstation Mega Man X games. It's likely to be from X4 because it was out the longest.

2) He still goes to SCHOOL. There are kids there, sometimes they give him trouble.

3) He doesn't like fighting!

I don't suppose anyone has any solid information regarding the DS's ability or inability to act as a GBA for connectivity games? IE, could you hook to the cube and play some four swords or pacman versus? I plan on getting a DS maybe a little while after they're out, but I do still kinda want an SP, and this would be useful information to know before I make any decisions (not that I expect there to be any solid info on the DS yet).

And damn nintendo for making the sexiest SP's limited edition...I'm not gonna enjoy paying 100++ for the torchic and triforce ones sometime in the next year...but man those are sweet. /ramble

3) one time I read something about ARM9 and ARM7 PROCESSOR and i don't know what that means but it is proof that ds is the best system ever ok ok

Luckily, the trifoce one is a game bundle special edition (minish cap) so more of those will get made, as opposed to the torchic's run of 2000 or so, which were only sold at japanese pokemon centers. I'd imagine it'll end up being as rare as the lime green one maybe, although I'd imagine more people will buy the triforce one. /speculation

Manager called from GS conference last week. Said they were getting "some kind of DS stuff soon" and that the store demo units would be in "sometime next month"

If anyone remembers the topic posted about Walmart taking pre-orders, the price was $199.99. I know that isn't "official" but I guess it's some sort of guage.

I didn't know it wasn't GBC/GB compatible either. Or maybe I just don't care.

Call me a fanboy if you want, but I'll buy a DS the day it comes out. I liked the idea before (once I'd thought about it for a while), and I like it even better now that they've streamlined the design a little. Wish it had some sort of an analog stick, but I can deal.

Supposedly, the price will be in the $150-180 range -- damn impressive. Good as the PSP will no doubt be, Nintendo's got the value equation locked up with this one.

Sincerely,

My philosphy- now is the time to get an SP, wait until the DS drops in price to a 100$ equivalent (AND IT WILL).

I bought the original GBA when Nintendo dropped the price to 80 way back when and I still felt I had jumped in too soon when I could have waited a few months and paid 20 bucks more to get the upgrade. 80 dollars for an SP now versus 150-180 for the DS is a much greater difference.

I bought an SP when they came out, too. Are you calling me irrational? LOL

You're right, it's a big difference, but then I can always sell off my SP (assuming I can get it out of my brother's hands) and make up some of that difference.

Well, maybe. I wonder if the DS will be able to play GBA Video? :o

Since there is no confirmed price or release date for the DS, i say if you've got the money just get the SP now. I dont think you'll regret having it even after you get the DS.....After all it's always nice to have a back-up.

DS preorders were going for 200 bucks. DS will be backwards compatible.(Nintendo would piss off way to many people and thier sales would suffer greatly)
If you are really debating the issue of doling out 200 bucks or a new/used SP. I would say get a used SP. Then either wait for a limited edition DS to come out (it will happen within a few months of release) or get one when the price drops or when the are used.

Keir

Definately if you can't get both, a DS + a GBA SP, go with the Nintendo DS!!! I mean I love my GBA SP, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT, but the DS is going to be badass. PLUS, it is backwards compatible so you will be able to still play GBA games on it.

I myself am currently saving so I can get the system, at least 5 or more games (If there are enough of the ones that I want ready) and any accessories I need. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!! Definately the item I am looking forward too MOST for this winter gaming season. (Last year was Mario Kart DD!! Just thought I'd throw that in there.)

It's still better than calling it something like, oh, Gizmondo or something!

Seriously though, keeping the development title for it means Ninty get lots of free advertising. Let's face it, they're not exactly keen on paying for it are they!?
