Complete prices for genesis arent that bad compared to complete NES prices @_@

Also Sega Master System has a obtainable library and everything can normally be found complete ;)

US Sega Master System. Lots of good games. Very few that are extremely rare/expensive.

Non-obscure as in close to modern is what I am guessing is your question. If I am wrong, please corect me. If I am corect in assuming this then I would say the Dreamcast. While systems such as the Saturn and Virtua boy would be better on the game count, the Saturn can be at times hard to find games for. The virtua boy while getting a domestic release has become a very hard system to find games for. There wasnt many games released for it but finding all of them can be a pain.

The DC on the other hand does have a large number of games available with only around 20 titles that cant be bought for under 20$. As its still a fairly new system to the clasic scene, most of the games are still readly available in used game shops. Hope this helps. If you have already started colecting the DC titles or already have them all, then I would sugest either the Saturn or the N64.

Or you could try for a Neo Geo Pocket colection if you want a good hunt.

Sega Genesis, even some of the uncommon games I was able to find reasonably priced. I wouldn't collect boxed though, too much trouble if your going on the cheap. Lots of places like Gamestop and EB don't have boxes for the games.

I would think Dreamcast because its not that old and you can still find DC games at a lot of videogame shops and stuff semi-cheap

I'd say any of the Sega consoles are pretty easy and cheap to get into.
For classics, I'd say Odyssey2. A small library that can be quickly obtained on eBay, with the exception of Power Lords. Also the non US releases can be found regularly at a decent price on eBay and a few dealers...

Sega Genesis, the best console ever of course!!

Last month i bought several r6 and r7 games for it...the MOST expensive one was 7 US (a boxed zero kamikaze squirrel R7)!!! I bought many many r6 games for 1.99 to 3.50 US!!!!!

Its a great system to collect for!

PlayStation, if you're looking for quantity over quality or rarity.

Genesis = lots of games and no expensive complete games
32X = Small library. All games are cheap but one.
SMS = All games are cheap but one.
O2= All games are cheap but one.
5200/7800 = Small library's and only a few expensive games.
Intellivision = Not to big and only a only a few really expensive.
NES = WAY OVER PRICED FOR ANY COMPLETE GAME. But lots of good games.

I'm voting for the original PLAYSTATION, all the way!

Start hitting EBgames and Gamestops... the prices for complete PSone games are dropping like stones. GOOD games, not crap, plus they seem to be re-stocking on a regular basis. I guess they are blowing them out.

I'm close to 400 games myself, 99% complete, maybe 4 sports games in the bunch (and a lot of dreadful garbage, but a fair amount of good ones, too.)

Who cares what is the cheapest? That may mean dozens of games you'd never want to play.
If you have an urge to collect, go for something that interests and entertains you, surely?

By the way. Theres an idea i´ve had for a long time, but hadnt said it to anyone..

Is it just ME; or collecting cd games isnt as exciting as collecting cartridges? I just cant see myself spending money collecting psx, dreamcast, or ps2 games,,,,,cartridges are a lot cooler collection pieces

Am i the only one who thinks that way?

Sounds like you are coming from a gamers point of view.... not collector.

Genises seems to be a fairly cheap common one to collect for. But Playstation games are still extremly easy to find.

I am stuck on a Gamecube bug... which considering is one of the major ones is fairly cheap.

I like cartridges too if not for being cooler for being more durable. I must say that loose N64 carts suck because they have no top label and you can't tell which game is which when you stack them. I like NES and SNES carts. People always think the Turbo Grafx HuCards are cool when I take them out. Since most of my friends never had a Turbo growing up.

I don't know... I really love my Dreamcast collection and Jaguar CD collections, and while I think that the Jaguar cartridges look neat, I don't think that they are any "better" than the CDs.

I actually like how much easier it is to store my Dreamcast collection space wise.

As for the initial question, I would strongly suggest Dreamcast. There is a sizable challenge with 250ish games released, already a strong homebrew community and everything can be obtained relatively cheaply. Also, from a playability standpoint, I think that the Dreamcast has an overall better selection of playable games than other systems.

If you are going for an older, cartridge based system that you can complete relatively easily, Odyssey 2 would be my suggestion. There aren't a ton of cartridges to get, most can be found very cheaply and they look kind of neat. The negative is that in my opinion, there are only a handful of cartridges that are worth playing for the system.

Ugh, yes; that's the bane of all N64 collectors. I can only tell a couple carts in my N64 cart bin on sight, which sucks :(

Genny, Master System and Dreamcast are all mainstream and cheap. If you're going for a complete collection I'd say either SMS or DC since they both had low U.S release counts. The number of Genesis games is someplace in the mid 700's I think.

I'm going to say the 7800. EASILY obtainable, not a huge library and I believe there is only one uncommon game (Tank Command I think it's called). For me personally, Genesis was the easiest. So easy. Bought about 300 boxes from a game store, most with manuals and I went from 50 genesis games to 250 in about a month and a half just from hitting up loose carts at gamecrazy. R6 game? 1.99!...Complete.

non-obscure or fun?

Atari 7800 is non-obscure and EASY to collect complete/boxed for but it sucks..

Right now the easiest would be the Nintendo 64..

the used N6 market is flooded, low # of titles for a complete collection. Only a handful of rares that turn up at EB and gamestops all the time because people don't know. Many amazingly fun titles that were exclusive to the system.

nah i think lots of us feel like that, i mean a loose cart goes right up on the shelf but a loose CD looks naked. i've made no real collecting effort on the DC or PS1 yet, just picking up games to play here and there. what i've seen in the wild has just been awful, cracked cases, scratched CDs missing manuals. i think OCD garage sale scores will be the only source for nice games. on the other hand you could say all the same things about saturn games and i love collectiing those.

Master System's starting to climb in price, slow but sure. A bit. You can often find these at thrifts, but not in my area; the one SMS title I've seen anywhere in a thrift (the Hilo, Hawaii Salvation Army) myself would've been a boxed After Börner. YAY! It was worth the price I paid, actually over double, but still...

My suggestion is the Odyssey 2. You can get complete copies of most of the games for only a few bucks each and there's not nearly as many games as on the Genesis.

Well the Genesis may be the cheapest as far as the price of individual games, but if you're gonna go for a complete collection, you should be aware that there's a shitload of games for it. I'm only at around 500 so far, and I'm like what, halfway there? But then I have almost no sports games for it, so if you don't count the sports games I'm probably really close to being finished now.

No, definitely a collector - my wall of Master System & Megadrive games (and current poverty) will testify to that. :)
Even so, I see no fun in spending large amounts of time and money collecting for a system you have no real fondness for, purely because it's cheap to get a full set (or whatever) - if that was the case everyone would collect game.com or 7800.
Go for something you have real nostalgia for, or something you always wanted as a kid, or for something that looks interesting - any reason other than 'Well, it's cheap'.

That cartoon image in your sig....is that from those old Johnny Turbo ads for the TG-16 system?

I stick by Anagrama 100%. I answered the question as asked, but that's the TRUE secret to collecting/gaming - get games you like for whatever system they're on. MONEY IS SECONDARY! :D

@ Grimbal: Yes, that's from Johnny Turbo. x_X Second part, I believe? Don't recall.

Best advice right there!

I think half the fun, besides playing the games, is doing the research and getting excited about playing old games for the first time or rediscovering all over again.

Yes! That feeling of being the "first kid on your block" comes pretty darn easy when you're talking about the Neo Geo or a Japanese personal computer, too (actually, make that "first person in your city" LOL )

My pick is the Genesis as well. There's not too many pricey games and even those can be found on the cheap.
