Does anyone have any favorite classic console games that they prefer to play over the arcade version? For me Colecovision Galaxian and Atari 7800 Donkey Kong Jr. are more fun than the arcade version, plus you can select the difficulty level. :D
I love the home verions of the Metal Slug series. :)

Contra, Super C. Longer, faster, easier to control.

Street Fighter Alpha 3. The Dreamcast port is every bit as fine as the arcade version and it includes a few extra fighters and several new game modes that are actually fun to play (World Tour Mode rocks!).

Donkey Kong Classics for NES, 2 in 1 deal is nice...but I still wish Nintendo would fix the original Donkey Kong and give back the lost elevator level.
Double Dragon on NES and SMS of course.
Popeye on NES I still perfer compared to the 2600 verison
TMNT 4 Turtles in Time for SNES (Finally, a solid arcade port)
Rampage for SMS (I still get kicks out of this compared to the NES verison..could be because there is an ending after you get past stage 50)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
No, seriously. The DC port of Alpha 3 was awful. They changed the game's engine slightly and screwed with move properties, to the point that if you're looking for the arcade version experience of Alpha 3, the DC version would be just as good as playing, like, Shaq-Fu.
Gradius 3 on SNES was much more fun then the arcade version, I know that much.

NES Thundercade. I was really disappointed when I bought the arcade version, it had better graphics, but was *alot* shorter and had fewer side cars. :hmm:

Gradius III for the SNES was VERY changed from the arcade version. A couple stages were removed, the speed of the game was changed, and some other minor differneces. Konami did the wise thing by 'adapting' the game for the SNES. The version of the game included on the Gradius 3+4 PS2 game is the arcade version. I agree I don't like it as much, though.

Soul Blade on the PS1 was SOOO much better than Soul Edge in the arcade.

Final Lap Twin for the TG-16 is so bizarrely different from the arcade version that I gotta mention it. I actually think it's better too. There's an RPG mode...Hit the Ice for the NES attempted the same thing, I hear. Those that have played it know what I'm talking about. :)

The NES Ninja Gaiden was about 1 million times better than the original arcade version.

I have to disagree. Don't get me wrong, I own and love the home versions, but they don't compare to the arcade version.
It's like saying that the NES versions of Bad Dudes, Ninja Gaiden, TMNT II Arcade and Karnov beat out the Arcade Versions. They ARE very, VERY good... But c'mon. Those are some classics I can't wait to play again whenever I get around to building a MAME cabinet, but until then, I am glad I have the home versions.

Contra. That's a hundred times better on the Nintendo. It's faster, the pacing is better, the levels are tweaked to perfection, and, frankly, the graphics are better.

SNES Smash TV > Arcade Smash TV
I can't quite put my finger on it, but the SNES version just has a better feel to it. And the music is better.

I agree that the Dreamcast version of SFA3 was inferior to the arcade. The Saturn import version though, that's a different story. All the frames of animation intact, all the moves, remixed music, the "World Tour" "Dramatic Battle" options found on the PSX version, and excellent load time. Not to mention, it's RGB compatible, unlike the Dreamcast version (not compatible with the VGA box, which is basically RGB but output at 60hz instead of 15.)

The NES Ninja Gaiden was about 1 million times better than the original arcade version.
But they're different games! The arcade version was ported to the Lynx, and apparently it's pretty darn good! (http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/ninjagaiden_lynx.htm)
For the DC SFA3 being worse than the Saturn version - the loss in frames is due to the different focus of the DC's hardware, correct? I've read that the Saturn was really designed for 2D games. This would seem to give some more credence to that theory.
