I sell old videos / books / games on amazon. They charge my buyers $4 but only give me $2. Where's the other $2 go?

Sorry this was meant to be in the Ebay forum.

Huh, that's odd. Hooray for hidden fees?

You sure you're reading that right?

I sell on Amazon all the time. The buyer has to pay shipping costs. The seller pays Amazon a fee and then gets added the shipping costs and the difference is what you earn.

Example: Sell a book for $20.

Buyer pays $20 plus $2 to ship media mail.

Seller gets $20 plus $2 shipping mind $1 for Amazon fee = $21.

Yeah true except the buyer pays $4.00 for shipping (I know..I just bought a book from a private seller). That's my question - where's the other $2 go?

I don't where those equations came from, but here's a recent transaction I had through Amazon (as the seller):

- Buyer buys my book for $65

- Buyer pays Amazon $65 + $3.25 for shipping

- Amazon rapes me and I get $53 and change for the book

- Amazon gives me Media Mail shipping credit - $2.62

$3.25 does not equal $2.62

- I ship the book, packaged lightly, via Media Mail for $3.52

$3.52 neither equals $3.25 nor $2.62

Amazon is ridiculous.

half.com does the same thing, they charge at least 15% commision on the item and then only give you a fraction of the shipping fees.
