question about MESS

Is there a way to set up MESS so it automatically saves controller settings, the way MAME does?

Here's the problem; I play the NES version of Super Mario 3. I press TAB and set up my controller (I'm using a PSX joystick) so that the start button is the start button, X is button A, and O is button B (as joystick buttons 9, 3, and 4 or whatever). Then the next time I start up MESS, I have to configure the controls again.

Your PSX software doesn't allow you to save the configuration to a file you can load whenever you want? For example, I am using Adaptoids here (N64 joypad to usb) and the software will allow me to create and save any config I wish. Then I would merely load that config before the emulator and all would work fine.

It doesn't matter how the PSX pad is configured. Maybe there's just something wrong w/ my MESS setup.
