i figured it would be nice ot have a topic on DP about all things Fable...becuz quite honestly, trying to get info/talking about Fable on other sites is just impossible because everyone is....stupid....

I have a few things i wanna talk about but ill just start with one in case there arent many people here who even care :P

when you go into your options and then go to see what current quests you have, some quests stay there regardless of what you do...such as the donating money to the different churches...how many, and which quests do this?

I've only had a chance to finish my training and start my first quest.

It's my understanding that some quests you can't finish until you do other things first -- previous quests, high enough levels, right items, etc.

Is there a quest that you're stuck on?

My question is, is it worthwhile to go after a wife first thing in the game, or wait until your flirting skills get better? What makes good gifts to give to your girlfriends? Is it worthwhile having multipule wives in different cities? ;)

I've put in a good 7 hours and I tried messing with a female outside my house. Her heart above her head looked maxed out, so I gave her a diamond. After accepting the diamond, she told me I didn't have enough Renown. So I'm guessing I need more Renown to get married. My Renown is at 4 right now and I'm shown to be a little evil. >:|

Still trying to figure out how to receive money when my house is for rent.

Avenger

ive beaten the game and ive only got a few quests still listed as "Current Quests", ive beaten all the quests you can get...but im sure that these will always stay there...

let me answer your guyz questions

wait to marry...after you become famous girls will throw themselves at you, you dont have to work for it...but also wait becuz someone special might want to marry you...who knows ;)...and yea after you are famous you dont even need to give gifts

to get rent you must wait a few days...then when there IS rent to pick up it will let you know, you go to the front of the house and the money will be just sittin on the front step

now for my question....

IF YOU HAVENT BEATEN THE GAME THIS IS A SPOILER

after you beat the game...and continue to play, os there anyway to get back into the back portion of the Guild? all the doors are covered in rubble and NO ONE is there!

To answer the original question:

Right now I have one such quest, and it's the "Bring People to xxx Temple for Sacrificing" (as you can tell I can't remember the name of the temple or the exact wording.

I actually did bring one townsman with me to sacrifice to see if the quest would disappear, but I was told I needed to bring more before I got any reward. I'll get around to it at some point :)

(I'm sitting on the fence between good and evil right now - doing all the good deeds in the main quest but playing around and breaking into houses and stuff while wandering).

My question is, is it worthwhile to go after a wife first thing in the game, or wait until your flirting skills get better?

It doesn't really matter. You don't have to get married, and there's no penalty for skipping it It's actually really easy to do if you wait, because if your attractiveness is high and your scariness low you'll walk into taverns and all of the women will have that "marry me" heart throbbing over their heads.

All marraige really gets you is a little money (the dowry awarded after marraige). The "sex" is kinda funny just to hear (the screen is black during this sequence) just once. After that it's just a maintenance issue because if you don't return to your home and visit your wife periodically she sours on your and divorces you.

What makes good gifts to give to your girlfriends?

Just don't waste your money on expensive stuff. Stick with chocolates and roses. They have exactly the same effect in the game as rubies and other gems. How unrealistic!

Is it worthwhile having multipule wives in different cities? ;)

Every time you get married you get some cash, but you get much more in the various side quests you can take, especially if you go for the boasts.

I've got one for you players.

As you know, you can map three will skills to your right trigger (I know, more if you flip through them, but that's a real hassle in the heat of battle).

Which three do you find the most useful?

I have found a combination that made me an unstoppable killing machine by the end of my first game:

1. Personal Shield (more important because it preserves your hit combos and thus vastly increases your experience points in battle)
2. Slow Time
3. Multi Strike

I'd tap off each of these before a big fight and the combo counter would spin like a top. That plus the fact that I'm doing double my normal damage and my opponents can hardly move. There were times when it really felt like I was cheating by doing this.

You could also replace Slow Time with Berzerk but I wasn't as good with the accelerated speed of my character so went with slowing everyone else down instead.

About the boasts -- someone please explain that to me. Do they affect your good/bad levels? I didn't accept boasts (just money :D ) on a quest because I was afraid of what it might do.

So far, I've only explored the first big town and killed the wasp queen. Beat the ever-loving crap out of a band of raiders, though.

And...they call me "Ranger". 8-)

boasts do NOT affect your good or badness...all it does is give you more cash and renown if you complete the boast, or you lose some if you dont do it right...dont worry all the quests are easy to do...ALWAYS do the one were you do it naked cuz thats easy cash right there

Thanks guys.

I'm still working too many hours to pick the game up again since Sunday, but I liked what I saw so far. Nothing really NEW, no, but well designed and fun to play.

It looks like money could be a problem in the game so far, though.

I also found I prefer magic to bows. Just so much EAISER to use. ;)

Are you sure all boasts do nothing? What about that quest into the Hobbe cave. If you choose to sacrafice a different innocent that isnt going to make you evil?

I'm going to have to try that out.

I finally decided to get married today. Actually, I married two women in separate towns just to see what would happen. The sex is the same & your wives won't get mad at you for cheating.

I also tried to do a threesome by luring an in-love girl to my home with my wife, but she just watched and asked for a ring afterwards. :)

I don't really think that was a boast. That's just a possible way to complete the quest. It was better to just kill the nymph, she's not that hard. The way you complete a quest can effect your good and evil points, and some of the quests you take can, but boasts just give you more renown and gold unless you fail them, like my dude said earlier.

Kill the queen was one boast option and bring a new sacrafice was another one. One was worth more than the other too. Though right now i cant remember which.

thingi s about marraige, you can marry a girl in every toen and they wont find out about each other...

and to my man who likes the magic, dont over use it cuz youll get really old REALLY fast, its the whole, stress of using it....you can get as old as 65 then you stop aging, youll never "die" of age...its cool to see the wrinkles when you get older tho....the whole aging, scars, tattoos thing is really cool now, but i am betting by next consoles, this will be put in EVERY action game...just one thing that we will be taking for granted later on so savour it now :D

Here's the 3 main spells I used, I didn't even really bother with the rest:

Enflame
Berserk (or whatever it was called)
Assassin's Rush

The only reason I even had AR in the first set of spells was for the big monsters. I really only used Enflame/Berserk (about 900 times).

WiseSalesman
09-23-2004, 02:54 AM
My spell set up (for a neutral-good witch hunter, the archery/will combo):

Tier One:
Lightning
Enflame
Force Push
(only when they're all high levels)

Tier Two:
Summon
Ghost Sword
Multi Arrow

Tier Three:
Heal Body
Physical Shield
Battle Charge

I switch between tiers during battle, but always begin (and sometimes stay) on tier one.

Yeah, so I rely on will a LOT, and on my bow even more. Hardly ever use my axe. But, even when I'm doing a mission "will-only", to build magic experience, this is the setup I use. Lightning mastered can hold four enemies in stasis while damaging them, and enflame mastered is simply devastating. At the higher levels, force push buys me time to set up a good shot with my bow, as it sends my foes rocketing back a LONG way, and knocks them off their feet.

The summon spell is useful if you get lucky (like I did) and have it kill something tough early on. My wasp killed a bandit leader first thing, so now I can summon a tough bandit on a whim. Ghost sword is nice if for no other reason than it distracts the baddies while you deal damage. At the higher levels, it can be devastating in one-on-one combat, as youll have swords circling about (and trapping) your singular opponent. Multi arrow I don't use all that often, but it has its moments if you're an archer.

I tend not to use physical shield much anymore, now that I'm near the end, as I can't afford to have my will bar eaten up so quickly. I'd rather rely on life potions. Heal body is exceedingly useful if you use it near a friendly unit in an escort quest. It's saved my bacon more than once when the person I'm supposed to be rescuing is near death, and I can give them a full health bar again. Battle charge will get you out of a tight spot if force push just isn't working. It deals a nice amount of damage, AND triggers Marty McFly flashbacks.

So, yeah. That's what I use, and I've turned out pretty okay. If you're focusing on will at all, you WANT to level lightning and enflame like crazy, as they are two of the most useful spells in the game (I don't even have fireball mapped anymore). They do a ton of damage to several opponents at once, and also assist in keeping you from being hit.

Any other questions? I'll be happy to help you out.

EDIT: I forgot to mention. It gets underrated a lot, but force push really IS one of the most useful spells in the game. Another use for it? When you have to keep someone still, or stop someone from escaping, and you can't kill them. Although it does deal SOME damage, the nice thing about force push is that it's almost entirely non-lethal. You can put down that escaping prisioner and buy a few seconds without failing your quest. Also, if you're trying to play a good guy (as stated, i play somewhat neutral) you'll want some non-lethal attacks to rely on other than your fists.

digitalpress

I agree - Force Push is a GREAT spell. Actually, almost all of the spells in Fable are useful in some way, unlike many other RPG's that have a lot of flashy ones that you never use.

The reason why Personal Shield is great - in case I didn't spell it out - is because even if you get hit, your combat multiplier does not go down. When your combat multiplier does not go down, the experience points go up. Jump into a cave full of undead or even Hobbes with the shield and watch how much experience you get while your combat multiplier is at 20 or so! Very fast way to get all the experience you need to buy more will spells :)

For those of you into the marrying scene, here are two challenges for you: marry Lady Grey (the mayor at Bowerstone) or for a really tough challenge, try marrying the old woman at Rose Cottage! YES, it's possible :eek 2:

I will post this question here since the gamefaqs boards are out of control.

I have been playing for about 4-5 hours and I am taking my timeexploring and doing quests. I am piss poor right now after buying a house and getting married.

1. Any tricks to stocking up on gold?

Also I have been doing some fishing. Which is fun and pretty easy. I have pulled up some tattoo cards, boots and money in addition to fish.

2. Anyone find any fishing spots with goodies?

3. What other fun things are you guys doing in the game or any secrets found?

I got drunk a few times and puked which was cool.

I posted this at my site, too, but it seems more people are discussing it over here. These aren't storyline spoilers, only ways to play in Albion. I'd like to hear what others are doing for fun, too. I am 11 hours in and am very evil....

My 3 Fave Magic Shortcuts:
1. Lightning - I'm up to level 3 on this.
2. Force Push - I think that is what it's called. It's where you can push back the swarm of enemies that are surrounding you.
3. Ghost Sword

I'm up to three tiers worth of magic abilities, but those three are the ones I use most.

Things I enjoy doing:

- Thievery - I am steadily upgrading my Guile so that I can be more profiencent in the art of thiefing, hehe. One of my favorite pasttimes in Albion is to go into a city at night, break down the door to a store, and steal as many items as I can before the guards arrive. Once they catch me and ask if I want to pay my fine, of course I say, "No", and I split. Then I take those goods I just snatched and either use them, or sell them for a profit.

- Collecting Clothes - Don't ask me why, but I enjoy collecting the different items to each suit. Once I get a complete set, I'm mildly amused.

- Killing the Innocent - Of course I enjoy this... I'm as evil as can be. My horns are huge and dark, my eyes are red and glowing. I've got a wicked tattoo on my face (and other places), and my clothes are dark and strong in defense. Plus, I've got flies swarming my head and a red smoke that follows me everywhere. I can only assume that it's a stench from me being so bad. Muahahahahaha!

I am using magic whenever it benefits me, but I doubt it's been enough to really accelerate my aging. I've upgraded many abilities, however, I'm mainly concentrating on leveling up in the Strength area.

Since I'm evil this time around, I'm having a hard time getting people to follow me, or befriend me. So the next time I play, I think I'll go "good", and take advantage of some of the other options Fable has to offer. One being property. I figured since I'm evil and no one likes me, that I'd have a hard time finding a tenant. I don't know, I may try it if I can save up enough to buy a house.

Oh and is it just me, or does anyone else not enjoy fishing? My thumb gets worn out trying to press A fast enough to reel it in.

Naw, man that's not stench...it's aroma.

You can break into houses in this game?! Sweet. For some sick reason every RPG that has an ounce of freedom in it I try and be a thiefy-type character and try to steal stuff that's not nailed down. I'm notorious in the Elder Scrolls games for breaking into houses and then staying the night to rest up (though I always wonder why monsters appear in them sometimes).

Hmmm, might have to check this game out. What's the combat like? Every review I read doesn't even mention it other than "it's there".

Yeah, that's my question, too. Off to IGN for a review or somewhere else (their reviews are ok. I prefer Game Informer by a margin- I'll look when I get home.) I'm a big fan of combat in Champions of Norrath and console Baldur's Gate. I haven't been as thrilled with Return of the King (and so I'm hesitating about Demon Stone.)

If the combat action isn't strictly turn based, then Fable may be able to hold my attention.

fishing: yes i have found tons of stuff, including clothes, tatoos, money and even silver keys..LOTS of keys...you fish only when there is that circular ripple..if you fish any other time you will ONLY ever catch a fish

i love getting all the clothes too :embarrassed:

The fighting is in real-time. There are no battle cut-scenes either. As you walk along the path, you'll see enemies as red dots on your map. As you approach them, you can attack them all in real-time. You can also walk up to an innocent - usually a traveling trader - and either talk to him, or kill him.

The combat is very simple. You've got different ways to fight also. For fighting you've got three types at your disposal at all times: swords (my personal favorite), archery, or magic.

Here's a bit of an exploit to just rake in the experience:

Go somewhere that'll have a troll climb up out of the ground. Pull out your bow and hold the button down. Now dodge rocks for 5+ minutes.

When you let go, instant dead troll, your multiplier goes up over 40, and the experience skyrockets.

also found a "bug"

the drunken brawlers in... I forgot the name of the town. Anyways, that circle of fighters, if you go up to one of them you can beat them and gain experience and they never die (not in the ring mind you). Just find one of them and punch their back until they get stuck in a corner somewhere and keep hitting them till you have a hojillion exp points. It doesn't give you any evil points either. =)

1. Any tricks to stocking up on gold?

Money is pretty hard to come by, but there are a half-dozen gambling games. If you're particularly good at any of them (for whatever reason, I can win card pairs 90% of the time, the other 10% is an analog thumb judging error :() you can clean up. If you screw up a big bet - reload the game!

Also I have been doing some fishing. Which is fun and pretty easy. I have pulled up some tattoo cards, boots and money in addition to fish.

2. Anyone find any fishing spots with goodies?

Just about anywhere with water should have a spot where the water ripples. Just go to that spot - you should even see your fishing hook appear in the main selection set. The best stuff I've found are keys and money.

3. What other fun things are you guys doing in the game or any secrets found?

Has anyone collected the "dolls"? I thought it was funny that some assassin I killed had a doll of my character and later I discovered that there are six in all. My collecting nature has me very curious. So far I've only found one other - the Thunder doll. Fun side quest.

How can you tell if there is anything to dig?

I thought maybe it would do like Zelda: OoT and rumble when you were near a digging spot. :)

Thanks for the money tip, DP. Money IS rather hard to come by in the game and I have'nt wanted to spend any unless it was a life ot death situation.

How many hours have people spent on this game? I keep hearing it's a short game, but I also wonder if everyone is doing all of the possible and optional quests, that really add on to the length.

I just beat it last night in 12 hours & I thought I was taking my time. If you sped through it, I bet it could be beaten in 4-6 hours, less if you skip the scenes.

Just when I was really starting to get into it - it ended. I think that's why so many people are re-playing the game as the opposite character they were their first go (good or evil) - to get more playtime out of it.

It's an awesome game, but sadly too short & waaaaay too easy.

Your hero name never changes unless you buy a title from a trader. Other than the fact that it's annoying to hear the same name over and over from the townspeople (who I usually end up killing anyway), there's nothing to be gained by changing your title. I've played with a bunch of them, it's a waste of cash.

Can't help you with the good guy thing though. No matter how hard I try I simply can't help playing evil.

A lot of that's correct, EXCEPT

In this particular mission, it's actually best NOT to use your flourishes. If you do, it knocks the hobbes down and you have to wate for the animation to finish letting them standup to hit them again. In this particulat mission, it's best to just mash the attack button or use some spells.

very true my friend...dont use flourish cuz the thruth is tflurish only deals a little bit more damage (watch the numbers) the only thing its good for is gettin past a strong defense...so what you wanna do if just use your regular attack...and also a trick i made up is watch Whisper and right be4 she kills a Hobbe you strick it...and then you get the kill! this means you dont have ot put in much effort, you get all the kills yourself, and shes left with nothing...beats going after hobbes alone...i beat this mission first time both times i played through the game (good and bad)

I beat it on Sunday in just over 14 hours. I did a lot of side quests and did A LOT of "playing around" in the towns (stealing, chicken kicking, etc.). The path to the final boss took me by surprise that it was over so quickly. It was definitely fun, though. I plan to go back and play it again this time as a good guy. I may also skip all side quests just to see if I can beat it in under 10 hours.

I wan't sure I'd like this game at first. But I bought it on a whim, I broke down, and I am glad I did. But I'm now mad I ddin't put down $5 and get the freebie. Oh well. Either way, wow..

Aside from a few quirks and oddities with the engine. (At one point, the whole landscape was blurred in low-res mode for a second before the detail caught up. Some lighting effects are weird. Other stuff..)

I am trying to be a GOOD character. I have spared both TwinBlade (Only because I was almost dead and not strong enough to take on 20 bandits at once.) and Whisper (Which was dumb in retrospect as I boasted before hand I would kill EVERYTHING. Damn my stupidity. Should have known it was a trap. So far I haven't won any boasts so I stop doing them.) and haven't done any really bad stuff. I did smash the windows and stuff at the farm though, but this was after the inhabitants left. And even then, the windows somehow came back later. But I haven't done really bad stuff.

Maleficus is my name. I like it so far. My haircut is a ponytail as it just looks cool. My weapon is the Obsidian Greatsword which I've had forever. Funny, I always get weapons as gifts and in boxes and stuff, but NONE have been better yet. They're always weaker.

I loved how you got sent to Prison and if you lost the race after a year, you would have to endure another year of torture until you win. And if you didn't get the key you would do the same. That was neat detailing. The first time I raced, I went the wrong way, gave up and went on a wild rampage beating up the invincible guards, hoping it would somehow work. Oh well.

My favorite Magic is the Force Push (Comes in great handy.) and the Time Slow... I use that one A LOT because it's completely useful. I used it for the Arena, for the Jail Finding the Archaeologist part (To get to the Docks without beating anyone. Makes it easier to take them all on at once.) and for the Grave Yard. Poor Grave keeper.. He got killed. At least he wasn't important. I stole his helmet right in front of him. I wish Magic spells could be sorted to favorites first. It's a PAIN IN THE ASS to have to page through all the useless ones to find the ones you need. Especially in heated battle.

I'm a sorta "Good" guy. If I have to, I'll be bad. But I don't know, something in me just thinks being bad is stupid. I just don't like people to be afraid of me. I want them to love me. In the game and in real-life. I hate the knowledge that someone out there doesn't like me. So I try to be nice to everyone. Karma I guess.

I am up to the snowy town. That's where I went to bed last night. I'll play more later.

I'll probably figure this out, but if not, how the hell, where the hell do I find the damned NECKLACE for Lady Gray?

I assumed the green dots on the map in BowerStone North were people to talk to. Mostly correct. Some weren't. The clues pointed me to OakVale. I found three green dots there. One was on top of a Hired Swordsman. One was the leader of the fist fighters. Another was no one. And then one off in the grave yard was a trader and his buddy talking to eachother. When I get close, they stop. When I am out of sight, I can hear him START to talk, then he whispers unintelligable then I hear Gold Pieces and then nothing but whispers.

WTF? WHERE IS THE NECKLACE? NONE OF THE DARNED FAQ'S ARE DONE!

As I figured, I found the answer. Whatever. NOW I am to the final boss. I just did the whole useless stupid chase (That ends up being for nothing. What was the point of getting there just a second too late every time and not being able to actually controll getting there before he did it?)

Anyway, I am now about to walk into the Chamber of Fate. According to an FAQ, Jack will kill my Mother. And at the end, I can choose whether I want to kill my Sister and keep the sword, or throw the sword away.. Dammit. I don't know. I don't WANT to be evil! I was good all the way until now. Bad is bad. Good is good. Bad bad, good good. Bad good, bad bad, good... bad.. You know. (Thumb Wars reference.)

I guess I'll have to decide. I may kill her. But I WANT TO BE GOOD!!! Man! Damn my sister. I guess I could become evil for a day. Then.. whatever. Any suggestions? (By the time anyone replies, I'll probably have won already. And made my decision.)

And now I've beaten it. I killed her. She asked for it. Guess I have to wait through the credits and see if it was all worth it. Mmm.. Sword of Aeons...

Great game. Very original. Glad I beat it. Now I can move on to Pikmin 2 and Donkey Konga after I do some extra quests.

Edit:

Heh heh.. I am evil enough to use Profanity, Middle Finger and Vulgar Thrust. LOL. That is so freaking FUNNY! "Shit!" LOL

But odd.. Will the Guild ALWAYS be destroyed from now on? I can still go anywhere in the world, but the Guild is destroyed. And I can't get any Quests from the map. Is this supposed to happen? Can I not do any more quests?

Here's what's funny. Since I was a real Angel through the entire game, when I killed my Sister, it simply only took away 75% of my "Good" points leaving me aligned still 25% over 0. I am STILL GOOD! Not Angelic anymore, but still good.

But just on a whim, last night I went on a drunken rampage. When you get drunk, everything goes blurry. It's fricking funny. I got really hammered and went to town, so to speak. By which I mean, I took out my Sword of Aeons and destroyed Oakvale to little bits. Every house was empty and for sale by the time I was done..

I didn't save, as I don't WANT it permanent, but it was fricking fun to do. Maybe I'll do it again permanently if I get bored.

BTW, what does "Xbox Live Aware" do? What CAN you do on LIVE?

xbox live aware lets ppl know your playing Fable...thats all...

btw killing everyone in a town is the only way to own the whole town...buy them all, rent them out, and eventually ppl will come back and then your in the money

So I am playing through this game evil now

Just a couple of things I wanted to share :
An easy way to steal money is have the shop keeper follow you and take him to the tavern. Get him drunk by giving him 4 or 5 beers and he wont be able to walk back to his shop. Then steal everything

After you become ultra evil its hard to get people to follow you :(
So in Oakvale I always go into the shops and hide in the corner and slide very close to the wall so they dont pay attention to you. You can still steal alot.
Its funny when you steal it , sell it back , then they set it out again and you repeat LOL

I am crawling through the game this time around and having a blast. :devilish:

If you look on Gamefaqs it is almost impossible to keep up with the subjects and posting. Alot of people are very disappointed in this title, not for what it is, but for what it was suppose to be. I did not follow the development that closely, so my expectations were a bit lower and I have spent around 10 hours on the game and I am really taking my time. I am not disappointed at all, but in reading what was suppose to be included in the title it seems this game really could of been a blockbuster hit like HALO.

The buzz since the game came out is that there are suppose to be secrets within the game that few shall find and they may go undiscovered. Is this more Hype or Reality? that is the big question. Some people with their modded XBOX systems are even searching the code within the game to find references to dragons and quests that never show up in the actual game.

Rumors of the Best Bard or Sandgoose, undiscovered areas which people are trying to access with the shovel trick.

I am holding on to some hope that in the games 4 year development the programmers did incorporate some fantastic secrets and possibly new undiscovered quests. But so far nothing has materialized.

My one thought is alot of games mini quests occur at specific times of the day and sometimes under certain conditions. So it is possible that the right combos have not been met to unlock the hidden secrets of the game.

So for those playing it and liking it or hating it. What do you think? Could there really be some incredible parts of the FABLE story yet to be discovered?

Yet another reason to avoid the "Preview" rut that the VG Media is mired in. You can judge a game by what it should have been when it's got a flaw in it (like bad music or controls or the like). I disagree strongly with judging a game by what features were listed in an article/interview that have been left out.

I'm playing the game and I'm *loving* it. I'm about 11 hours in, taking my time like you are, and just enjoying it's little nuances to bits. I'm pretty sure there are tonnes of things that I'll miss - but I'm also pretty sure that they'll be available on gamefaqs and the like (which I'll read after my first time through the game so that I can use it during my second run through).

I haven't seen what it was supposed to be. I enjoyed the game but I was STILL disappointed. It is OBVIOUS that a game with this kind of potential was meant to be bigger, longer, less linear... it's particularly obvious when 12 hours into the game it suddenly ends in a highly contrived final boss battle.

Great game for the time you get with it, but any gamer can see that this was meant to be so much more.

I totally agree. From what I've read on here, I get the feeling I'm already over halfway through (at about six hours or so), and I tend to take my time on RPGs.

My guess? I think the Xbox Live access was thrown in as a way of adding new content to the game at a later date. There's really no other reason for it to be there.

Speculate away... :D

Anybody go to the demon gate where you have to do an evil deed in front ?
I figured you need to murder someone to open it , but found out by eating 10 crunchy chicks in front of it does the trick.

Or now that I am playing though as evil , I am so evil that he called me master and opened up for me without having to do anything

My main point with that statement was to attack the previews we're constantly bombarded with. Your criticisim is more valid because it comes soley from playing the game, not based on something you read back when the project had "Ego" in it's name.

I can't fairly judge the game because I read some of those previews, so I don't know if the seed was planted there or if I just expected more. I find that more disappointing than anything to do with the game.

Well, a friend of mine got it and was disappointed as he couldn't do a lot of stuff early in the game (he's one of those gamers that needs instant gratification). I was able to buy it off of him for $25 as EB was giving LESS than $20 because they had like 5 used copies on the shelf. So I plunked it in and sat down with it.

I love this game.

I'm a mere 3 1/2 hours in but am having a blast discovering boundaries and wooin' up the ladies. I'm going at it with the "quasi-good approach" and am bending my character to be a theif-type (as I'm a cleptomaniac in most RPGs, it's fitting). I'm freekin' deadly accurate with a bow, even at this early stage (and no I don't use lock-on) and yes I giggle every time I pop an enemy's head off like an overripe zit. I figure after a few more quests under my character's belt I'll probably buy a house and, if I find the right gal for my rogue, have a complicated adventuring/home life.

As for your character's title: I've read that you can "earn" titles from one of the churches, which is what I think I'll do with my current character. I ain't buying no stinkin' name.

I can see why people say it's linear but that reminds me of when Zelda: OoT came out-a lot of people just meandered about the world having fun. Fable is the same way. It's really neat that the NPCs react to your presence and that is really helps immerse you into the world.

I figure I'll go for the evil death-bringer after I'm done with my thief. THAT should be interesting.

I finally pulled this game out yesterday from its cardboard box tomb and played it again. After fighting in the Dark Forest area, I finallly made it up to famous renown and got my Guile up to level 4. Now, the fun begins!
