People, please check the first two pages before making a topic about current game news, kthxlock.
I usually wait to get a new system like a year after to see if wide game selection and wait for the price to drop alot :)
So system usually drop price like 50 dollars after 1 or 1 1/2 years realease.

"Begin to shrink"?! $149.99 is an EXTREMELY aggressive price point, considering the amount of tech in the DS, and it's safe to assume that Nintendo will either break even or lose money on DS hardware.
The only way the price goes down before X-mas '05 is if the DS is a total fucking wipeout, and Nintendo goes into Virtual Boy liquidation mode.

$150 is a good initial selling point. It's definitely NOT aggressive as hell. It' exactly what was expected, any more and it would be the same price as a console.
Down to $100 by next year is ALSO COMPLETELY reasonable and fairly expected, ESPECIALLY (in both cases) if the PSP poses ANY kind of competition whatsoever...
And DON'T turn this into a DS VS PSP thread please.

What?! It's TOTALLY aggressive. $199 was what many folks expected, and it's a reasonable amount to ask, considering the DS's hardware. $149 *really* sticks it to Sony, even if the PSP launches at $249 instead of $299 (and it looks more and more like the latter figure is what it'll be).
$99 by Xmas '05 won't happen unless the DS is tanking and/or the PSP is destroying it.

Apparently expectations have gone up...if folks think $150 isn't a great starting price for a new handheld...egh.
On the other hand:
The Game Boy Advance will be arriving here in Canada this June 11th for $139.95. Although Nintendo Canada has not yet decided how many units will go one sale in the first week, expect it to sell out.
- From this site (http://www.gamenationtv.com/hardware/gameboyadvance.shtml) (the writer seems to think "Castelvania" is a correct spelling, heh), and it's obviously in Canadian funds, c. 2001 exhange rate
In any case, though, it's fine for Nintendo to launch it a wee bit higher - their competition isn't a previous handheld, but the PSP. There you go. Possibly half the price of Sony's machine.

Also, Nintendo already has a low-cost portable, the $79 GBA SP. Yet another reason why DS won't go below $149 'til 2006 at the earliest (unless it's being crushed).

I don't think Nintendo will need to drop the price of the DS - $129.99 at the end of 2005 is the biggest drop I can imagine - unless, of course, as others have noted - the system is totally crushed. I fail to see how things will get that desperate for this system.
