The Playstation system didn't actually go on "official" sale till September 9th, 1995, but some of the games actually showed up at the stores before then.

I actually remember that a friend of mine bought Total Eclipse Turbo several days before the PSX actually came out.

Ah ok that's understandable then, I remember that year well, because I was in the middle of moving to a new city at the time and didn't have time to catch up with the game news during August and September of that year

I thought that Williams Arcade Classics was a launch title. That was the first game that I got, but I didn't get a PSX as soon as it came out, so I may be wrong. It was still in a longbox at the time though, so I know it was early.

In fact, he does not. I've seen a longbox of it with me own eyes.

As a matter of fact, there are TWO Discworld games for the PS1 released in North America. Plus, I think the 3rd game in the series, Discworld Noir, was released in Europe since adventure games are still somewhat of a commercial genre there.

I have to laugh at some of the launch date titles.

I can just imagine a guy picking up his brand new, $300 Sony system, looking at the game rack and thinking "Hey, they have a Street Fighter game on this system already!"

... and then hooking it all up, excitedly, and playing that Street Fighter... 8-)

Here is a list ( http://www.richpsx.com/games.htm ) of the first PSX releases. This site was around when the PSX first launched, so I would imagine their data is correct.

They have Wipeout in their first 50, which I believe to be correct.
