I'm a member of the Playstation GAP (Gamer Advisory Panel) and every once in awhile we get to beta test certain games...usually the online enabled games to test their servers. In the past members have been able to betatest FFXI, Socom I & II, Ratchet & Clank: UYA, Killzone, etc. for free of course.

Well yesterday I just got the betatest kit for Crash N' Burn. The disc looks like a regular game except at the bottom it says "Not For Resale. Beta Disc Ver. 1" or something similar to that.

Is this something that would be considered rare and worth keeping? I know they usually get anywhere from 2,000 to up to 10,000 people to beta test games...I think this particular game has 5,000 people testing it.

Oh and I haven't played it yet, but from reading the betatest message board people are saying the game really sucks...something probably not worth buying unless they really fix the online bugs (you can't play the offline version).

20,000 is considered a rare print run - that's the run for Castlevania: Chronicles, for example, and that game's starting to pull down double its original price. Definitely hang onto your betas - plus you're preserving a little bit of video game history. That's my opinion.

I joined this and never got the conformation package and i only got 1 deom to test it was Downhill Domination. My cousin got the package with a card and a binder or something but he too only got 1 demo to test same as me it was Downhill Domination.

After registering my first PS2 I was invited to GAP and I got all kinds of free schwag from Sony. Kinda cool!

I just wrapped up beta test for the Kill Zone multiplayer. Supposedly 10,000 beta tester kits were intially available but the most I ever saw online was about 250 in the first weeks and 30 in the final weeks. Geat game, can't wait for this to come out!

I think the non online betas will be more collectible down the line to completists and collectors of the rare and obsure. Also If a game is wildly popular then your betas my be even more valuable than games that bombed or didn't franchise.

Just hang onto that stuff and see what happens in 5 to 10 years, save the paper work that comes with it too.

Either way I'm definitely gonna hold onto mine...I love having things not many other people even have the chance to get.

And to the people here who are GAP members, what is your username there?

Mine is Lord007_RoS and I'm one of the more "popular" people there with a popularity rating of 37.

Just out of curiosity, you guys don't have a non-disclosure agreement, do you? Because you might want to rethink this if you do. ;-)

Not that I know of...only agreement I think was that Sony owns all the rights to all discussions/journal entries in the GAP...So if somebody writes about a videogame idea they have, then Sony can use it.
