My 2 year old is too young to play with me, and much too young to see really violent stuff on TV/Video Games. Any suggestions as to solid titles to play around him? I'm so into hack n' slash it's very limiting and painful. I'd stick to classics, but we're in temporary digs and all I have setup is a PS2.
Offhand, I am thinking of picking up NFS: Underground (driving is ok)- but is it as fun as Midnight Club 2? Other non-driving suggestions?
And by New Gen I mean current, not Genesis.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Mega Man Anniversery Collection, enjoy the classics in their 8-bit splendor. Beyond that, music games might work, pick up Amplitude (I don't recall any offensive music from it) maybe Rez (your kid will think that's just plain trippy). If your alright with some comic oriented mild violence Beyond Good and Evil is amazing (a little dark/scary at times for such a young child maybe though, mild violence), maybe Veautiful Joe (a beat em up sure but very comic book like). Howabout Mister Misquito, cartoony and good natured in concept. Car games as you mentioned are obvious, but you might be wary of some of their soundtracks if your worried about the immpressionability of your child... The bottom line is though the GameCube is a much more kid freindly platform, sure the PS2 and the Xbox (to an even lesser extent) have kid freindly games, but many of them suck. The GameCube is the only console that comes to mind that has a plethora of kid freindly games you'd actually want to play.

From what I hear of Katamari, I imagine a little kid would enjoy rolling together a giant ball of stuff.

And the number one answer is:
Kingdom Hearts
Kids eat that Disney stuff up! Shoot, even my wife asks me to play that game so she can watch and try and spot all the Disney references throughout.
Plus, it's a fun game as well!
