View Full Version : Sega Magazines in Europe
I'm a fan of both the NES and Sega systems. However while it's easy ti find NES reviews in the gaming magazines, Sega gets only mininla coverages in mags like EGM and VG&CE.
I remember that the Master System was more sucessful in Europe. Can anyone tell me if there were any gaming magazines that covered the SMS in detail (reviews, strategy guides, and so on)?

I knew you guys were behind the times, but jeesh... ;D
I would imagine that there were reviews of SMS games in Brazil, Australia, and PROBABLY at least some places in Europe, seeing how the system had some decent popularity in those areas (MSX too...a coincidence? I think not!)

speaking for germany i do not know any real video game (not pc) mag that existed before 1992 (except nintendo club mag), maybe Power Play, but i'm not sure, Mega Fun started 1993 and had some late SMS reviews but other than that, i don't know, Sega Mag started during the MD period i think

There were literally shitloads of Sega-based UK mags from the early 90's - most covered SMS, MD and MegaCD stuff, though some were MD-only.
Amongst others we had: Sega Power, Sega Force, Sega Pro, Mean Machines Sega [all multi-Sega mags], Megatech, Megadrive Advanced Gaming, Mega, Mega Power [all MD-specific], and there's probably more I've forgotten.
There was also the short-lived Sega Master Power (I might have the name wrong there - it was a SMS-only spin-off from Sega Power that only lasted about 4-5 issues).
SMS games were also covered by most of the multiformat mags aswell: Mean Machines (before it split into Nintendo/Sega specific mags), C&VG & GamesMaster all had a fair amount of content, and again there's probably a few more I've forgotten.

Sega Visions was Sega's main magazine in the US, it had reviews of Genesis and maybe Master System games in the early issues.

I have ads of the "Sega Power Club" with some of my games. I've never seen that mag personally though.
