Hmm, do you happen to have a list of the button labels? It almost looks like something to record a gameplay sequence of controller input. Is that a Record/Repeat switch that I see?

The top two orange buttons slide up/down (or forwards/back, depending on your viewpoint).
Top left says "Standby" for the top position. Top right says "repeat" for the bottom position; I also think its up position is labeled "record." That would make sense. Big orange button on the bottom just says "start."

The top two white buttons, as you see, have LEDs...I would imagine these buttons are used to switch between games saved.

I'm guessing that you hit that start button before you hit the start button on your Famicom pad, otherwise everything would be way out of synch.
