I know we've kicked this point around before, but I cannot stress enough how many times it's paid off to let the people in your life that you collect games. You can't be everywhere at once, and it helps to have as many pairs of eyes "working for you" as possible. Today's AWESOME score for me just proves that point.

I just got off the phone 10 minutes ago with a friend and co-worker of mine. On his way home from work, he drove past a garage sale with a Q-BERT ARCADE GAME sitting in the driveway. My friend knew I collected arcade games, so he stopped by for a closer look. The game works, plays, and looks great, and had a price sticker stuck to it.

$100.

After a couple of phone calls back and forth, my friend fronted the $100 for me, and I'll be on my way over to pick up the game in an hour or so. According to him, the monitor looks great -- the owner even has all the keys and everything. Q-Bert is one of my son's favorite games on MAME, and I can't wait to surprise him with it! Shoot, maybe I should hide it until Christmas ...

whoa that is pretty cool! Lucky kid I know I'm not the only one here who'd love a Q'bert arcade machine for Christmas.

EDIT: See this is what the hell I get for letting people (user pyropenguin) use my computer to scour DP while I'm still logged in.

Flack, I didn't post the -_- emoticon, promise!

Anyways, killer find, and an even better thing that you're getting it for your son. Hell, I've put so much work into getting MY machine working...I get uber jealous seeing finds like this.

Way to go, I'm still gonna come over and play one day. LOL

Nice find Flack! I got a call about a game myself today. I had mentioned to a friend that I wanted a Track and Field, so he went out and found one for me! It's sitting safely in his garage in Lubbock right now. $200, but still not a bad deal!

I'd love one of those myself. The convenient store next to my house growing up had one. If I don't find one soon I'll probably buy a board and "make" one.

Not sure if I'll have it in time for the next SA, but if I do you're more than welcome to come out and play. Hopefully I'll have my Star Wars upright done by then too!

I don't remember who started the thread about game inflation, but here's what a hundred bucks will get you at an Oklahoma garage sale.

After thinking about it more, I think this may be my single best arcade find ever, financially speaking.

I picked up my Pac-Man cocktail here in Wyoming at a little country store in a small farm town. It was covered with old pop crates and boxes. I asked the lady about it and she said it hadn't worked in years. After several attempts I was able to contact the owner and we negotiated a sale price of $125 so I could "get it out of their way."

I got it home and after some cleaning, paint, 1 character rom, and a new monitor, it's nearly like new.

If I could only find an underlay with the "by Midway" logo on it.........

Sometimes it pays to live in the boondocks :)

Wow, excellent score! And you're right, half the time when you're buying a game, they're as desperate to get rid of it and you are to buy it! The one I got yesterday came from a moving sale.

You've got some nice stuff.

I used to love Heavy Barrell. I have the board but those twist top sticks are hard to find. If I were near Oklahoma I would sneak into your game room to play that one. Always wanted a vs. cab too.

Of course my holy grail in arcade stuff is a Sinistar....someday :)
