Why are the prices on eBay so high on this game. Anywhere from $20-$40 us. @_@ I mean it's an R1. It's a good game, I guess people will pay anything for what they want.

Whoa!!..Really @_@ .........................................Thanks..

I could of swore I had this game in my collection but my buddy said he was going to throw some NES games in a box to sell at the flea market for 2-3 dollars each.

I asked him what he had..most are commons but he had the 3 games below and I wasn't sure if I had them..(I needed the mega man 3 though)
So he gave me them for nothing...

Sheesh..I might to list this BB if that's the going rate..

Rarities and demands are quite different. Contra is in the same boat as Bubble Bobble, even more so. Super common, relatively expensive. Same goes for rare games. There are loads of rare games that go for nothing on eBay because no one cares about them.

I just waiting to find my BB and Contras cheap, they can be found, just might take a bit of patience.

Contra is in the same boat as Bubble Bobble, even more so.

I would say some of the other examples would be

Megaman
Final Fantasy
Legend of Zelda
Phantasy Star

I got Legend of Zelda and Contra for under 4 bucks a piece from a neighbor. They sell for 16 and 15 in the stores around here.
Any popular (old) games no matter how common hold a pretty good value.

I regret not picking it up from GS a few months back. Haven't seen BB in the wild since.

The NES version isn't even the best one. I prefer the Arcade version. Also released on the PSX and Saturn. Those are the true BB games. I can't play anything else. I need the original level layout, and cheat codes. I need infinite lives and level skipping.

Anyone know how the GBA version compares? We just got it in our store recently, so I grabbed one and put it aside. I have the ROM and hate the damned scrolling, but if the game is the Arcade version, I'd buy it in a second. If it's yet ANOTHER level selection, I'll pass. (I wish Taito would port the Arcade one to the GBA. Dammit!)

The SMS version is infinitely superior to the NES

Anyway... I'd still want the exact Arcade version.

Hey Daryll .. you really need to slip the word "NES" into the title of that Bubble Bobble auction, otherwise nobody will see it!

Heh. Yeah, but the SMS version has even more features than the arcade. :)

And to prove I'm not a singularly blinkered SMS-nut, I'm happy to admit that the NES version of Rainbow Islands craps on the SMS one, graphically at least. ;)

Yeah, but the PSX version has those two really annoying bugs where you can get stuck on a level that never ends...

Do tell. Is there some sort of site that documents ALL the variations, level layouts, features. What features does SMS BB have that NES and Arcade BB don't?

Yeah, but the PSX version has those two really annoying bugs where you can get stuck on a level that never ends...Yes. I encountered one of those. Which is why I need the level skip cheat to go to the next level. I had one enemy stuck in a space that I could not get him out of, nor could I get to bubble him.

SMS Bubble Bobble has 200 levels, and there's 2 extra bosses (a giant Mighta, and a giant version of one of those furry grey things that breathe fire) Plus there's secret items that need to be found to progress through the game, like a candle that is needed to see in the dark rooms that start around level 145.

Holy shit! I'm officially looking for this game. Do the 200 levels repeat in 'Super' form a la the NES version's Super Bubble Bobble? Also, does it have any warps like the arcade (where if you don't die, you can enter a secret door on levels 20, 40, etc)?

Question: How does the GBA Bubble Bobble Old & New compare? I hate scrolling, but if the game is good enough, I might buy it tomorrow. I been looking for a reason not to put it back in the case. Been looking for hand-held BB goodness and since I don't see Taito releasing the arcade version on the GBA anytime soon, this'd have to do.

I broke down and bought Bubble Bobble Old & New. Glad I did too. (And not because I struck out at both GS and EB in finding Atari Anniversary or Katamari Damacy, though that too.) The scrolling is annoying, but the "Zoom" feature makes it a little easier to handle. Both versions are really nice. I'm still curious as to which level design set this game uses. Is it the Arcade layout? One of the console versions? Or a totally new layout?

What is this scrolling issue?

Nope, all 100 arcade levels, and 100 new levels, and I've never encountered any level skipping doors, but there are alot of hidden doors that lead to screens filled with gems and mystery texts, and screens full of treasure chests.

FYI, the GameGear Bubble Bobble is esentially the same as the SMS one, but with levels resized to fit the Game Gear screen.

oh, and this small SMS BB faq I wrote might help give you an impression of the type of hidden/extra stuff: http://raccoonlad.topcities.com/bb-faq.html

What is this scrolling issue? When a single screen game is still too tall for the screen (Game Boy), it uses scrolling to keep the elements from being squished.

I hate the scrolling, but when I found the feature that allows me to zoom out, it made it less annoying. I usually hit L to zoom out before I go down a hole to make sure there's no enemy on the top of the screen to land on. It's very convenient, but looks like crap, so I don't keep it on all the time. Never the less, I love the game, but would love to know if the level set is from a previous game or a new assortment.
