The latest issue of Play magazine (got it today) mentions that SNK was planning to show a new MS game at the Tokyo Game Show, and hinted they thought it would be 3D. Score another one for Halverson & co.

I'm a little skeptic as to how this will turn out. Hopefully it'll be more like Contra: Shattered Soldier than the ps1 Contra: Franchise Killer games were.

Metal Slug has a really stylized look that would be completely dashed to pieces by a conversion to standard "realistic" 3D. Their only hope would be some variation of flat "cel" shading.

When I read this topic, the first thing I said was
"Eww!"
BAAAD idea. The reason MS rocks so damn much is because of the style. Plain and simple.

Also, the 3D megaman was really just 2.5 d (3d, but on rails)

Ugh. I knew this would eventually happen...I don't like the looks of it. It just don't look like the metal slug we know and love. Let us pray that it doesn't ruin the series.

In my opinion, some of the most unenjoyable, boring and worthless games are the "new" Mega Mans. You know, where he's Megaman.exe and battles computer viruses. The Battle Network games are absolutely horrible in my opinion.

I guess I am the only one but I think it looks ok. Considering I haven't played it. I am kinda glad they are moving on a little, (don't get me wrong I love me some Metal Slug). Hasn't the series been going "down hill" since 3 anyway? That is what I always hear at least.

that game looks like shit...and im not just saying that becuz i love the 2d Metal Slug games and i want it to stay 2d....im sayin it sucks becuz if it didnt have the Metal Slug name, it would be just another crappy assed 3d piece of junk...the only reason im going to keep looking into it is cuz its got the M.S. name...good reason or not i dunno...they are tryin to keep the style but it just makes it look stupid

Almost as bad of an idea as a 3d King Of Fighter's. Not looking foward to that.

I think it looks awesome and I can't wait for it, why does everyone have to hate on turning a classic franchise into a new generation game?

I guess you'd all just prefer they never do anything with the franchise, never add any innovation, and just keep doing the same thing over and over again. Right? Of course not, cause people would whine about that too.

How about they just not make any more Metal Slug games? Would that make you all happy? Of course not, cause people would whine about that as well.

You just can't please some people, I'd be happy enough that there still doing something with the dying franchise.

I love video games - so I'm going to keep an open mind about this one. I'm a bit skeptical though - one of the big draws to metal slug was the character that you played as (marco and the rest) and all of their funny animations. I dont mind if they make it 3dm but First-person is what bothers me.

Oh well, I was skeptical about Metroid going 3d too. THat turned out okay IMHO, Metals slug is of course different - metdoid had A LOT of things that made it metroid, metal slug is awesome, but doesnt have a lot besides character design, style and powerups that make it differnt from any other left-to-right shooter.

We'll see.

thing is i love change and i love innovation (go Nintendo :D) i loved Metroid going to 3d cuz look they were still makin 2d ones so what does it matter? the 3d one keep the feel and at the same time made its new and fresh...so i have no prob with the jump from 2d to 3d (hell Super Mario 64 is one of my fav gmaes)....

Metal Slug COULD possibly pull of a 3d version, (anythin is possible) but this game looks like 100% crap...and yea KoF 3D looks shit too

It has not gone downhill sence 3, most people dislike 3 the most, actually. And I WOULD prefer that they dont change the gameplay. "If it aint broke, dont fix it". They have done 5 games and made each one different, but still using the same play mechanics. When you change the perspective of the game, and the amount of dimentions, its not a good thing. Sure, we got lucky with Metroid, it dosn't work most of the time. I can hope for the best, but I know that it just wont turn out very well.

Really? Everywhere I look I see how three is better than four and five. Doesn't really matter they are all fun.

Who did you ask? Everybody I've talked with likes 3 the best; X is usually considered ... not so good (I agree with that assessment for the most part), and I haven't touched anything newer. Three's great, though - one of the best character-based shooters of all time, as I see it.

Yeah...from the screenshots I see, well, what looks like another annoying dungeon crawler. I haven't played too many of those on the current gen systems, and I should probably be thankful for that, too.

I'm sorry, but I just can't trust anyone who likes "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and uses slang like "in the hood 'g". That's two strikes against you.

3D Metal Slug? Meh.

As long as SNKP continues to make 2D versions, I dont care if they make polygonal ones for "teh mainstreamzoRz!!"

The only good thing I can see of it is that hunting for hostages will become a real hunt. The bad thing is crap like the radar in the bottom right. Looks so wrong.

If SNKP wants to inject something new into the series, they should farm a Slug game out to Arc Systems and get some hi rez Guilty Gear action going.
