Hello everybody! I have been asked to appear on this web site to answer questions about Air Raid, my latest acquisition for my Atari 2600.

Well, I'll get the questions started by asking how you heard about the auction and what convienced you, for the love of God, to spend THAT much money? :D

What was the final bid?

I assume since you are here, that the cart was indeed legit?

And congratulations :)

In college, I had a roommate that was into atari 2600 game collecting. Once day, he brought his games to play and I remember seeing the Air Raid cartridge in his collection (the same exact one I just bought). I never thought much about the cartridge, just that it was bluje and unique. I remember asking him about the game (because it was so unique). He said that he received as a gift in late 80's, early 90's WITH A BOX! I remember him telling me the name of the game "Air Raid." Well, this person was from the Bay Area. I do not know if he has the box but I have been trying to contact him ever since I found out that this game is mysterious in its origin. I am still trying to contact him and if I hear anything, I will post it. But, as I have seen in this and other chat rooms, some believe it is a BRAZILIAN cart. I highly doubt it is brazilian because of one simple thing, THE GAME HAS NEVER BEEN FOUND IN BRAZIL!.
Anyway, I bought it because it is a collectible item and I am a damn serious collector. The game itself is pretty cool!

The final bid was $3,305.00

I believe it is. I remember holding the other Air Raid (my roommates!) and it feels exactly the same like the one I got!

Are you aware of the rather questionable history of this cart? I certainly hope for your sake that the history of this game is colorful enough to warrant your purchase... I for one couldn't imagine spending that much on a game.

I rather not say until I get in contact with him, if ever. I want to ask him if I can say his name first before I blur it out on this website

At least you are happy with what you bought that is most important thing. Congrats!!

Oh and are you a serious 2600 collector, or just this game in general that has caught your attention?

I am a very serious collector and plan to acquire more games in the future until my atari 2600 collection is complete!

How long had you been trying to find this game to purchase?

How does this game rate with your favorite Atari 2600/VCS games?

Did you play the game before? I imagine so since your roommate had it.

Of course you don't have to answer this, but what was your maximum bid?

Now that you own this, what is the 2nd rarest game you own for the VCS?

What kind of work do you do? Where did you go to college? (I know, off topic, but I'm curious...)

Thanks for answering any or all of my questions!

congrats on the purchase

i guess my question is, since you seem to be a VERY serious collector, why havent you made an appearance on DP before?

Congratulations on your purchase! Whether or not it's a real release or not, it's certainly rare and you definitely are now a part of Atari collecting history.

How long had you been trying to find this game to purchase? For the last ten years

How does this game rate with your favorite Atari 2600/VCS games?
Out of a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best, I'd rate it a 6

Did you play the game before? I imagine so since your roommate had it.
Yes

Now that you own this, what is the 2nd rarest game you own for the VCS?
I would say it is a tie between Music Machine with record, Copy Cart, River Patrol, the original prototype of Dukes of Hazard, Motorodeo with box (NTSC)
What kind of work do you do? Where did you go to college? (I know, off topic, but I'm curious...)
I am a teacher ...... University of Southern California- USC)

I really do not like the internet much, just e-bay. I simply do not have time to chat. I wish I had the time but there is just so much time in a day.

My philosophy is that if I want something, I get it. You never know if this will be the last time for an opportunity to get such a game. Getting $3300 is not a rare thing, but finding Air Raid available (hasn't come up in the last five years), that is a whole other story.

Hey Mayhem, thanks for the competition, you raised the bidding a whole 1,000 dollars. That's o.k., I won't hold THAT against you!

i guess my question is, since you seem to be a VERY serious collector, why havent you made an appearance on DP before?

I just do not have the time to chat. I am doing this now because I have been bombarded with a ton of e-mails about the purchase of Air Raid. I have received bids for over $5,000 for this game already (two people have offered me over 10,000). This is incredible but I do not plan to part with this game anytime soon!

Of course, if they were willing to buy the game for that much, the question remains: why did they not bid on the auction?

Wow, I've always said I'd never sell my rare games (which I still haven't ;D) but if someone offered me over 10k for a single game I would have to certainly say goodbye to it. That is money that can be put to use in my life.

A belated "congrats" to you for winning what is truly one of the top ten "holy grails" of gaming!

Could I convince you to send a high quality scan of the cart front and back? Strictly for documentation and archival purposes.

Also have you noticed there's another one on eBay right now? Should be interesting to see where that goes - the seller set a BIN right around your final bid amount!

I've found nearly as many Air Raids as I have instances of $3300. That is, pretty much zero.

It's funny those $5K and $10K bidders for this guy's cart have not picked up the discounted $3250 BIN price. Maybe I'll call my contact in Mexico who knew the place that had the AIr Raid carts and grab some LOL

Congrats wonder007, I was the one that invited you to join the boards. Hopefully you are able to make regular appearances on the boards and I know how it is to acquire such a rare find, and in your case you remember it from years earlier and I for one understand how hard it is to part with something that you spent so long trying to find, no matter how big the offer was/is. Congrats and here's to many more rare finds for you!

Yeah, and also congrats on being the owner of a NWC Gold Cart (NWE?). I assume that's what you meant.
