Hey,

I was just thinkin about people here (Mainly collectors, i guess?) lets go 20, 30 years down the round, lets say you still have your collection, what would you do with it? would you be able to let it go? I'm taking into account, your future family, wife, kids etc, etc..

[ Lets say your in the 50 to 60 age range ] Would it be something you'd pass on? to a family member? maybe even a friend? could you really part with it, after all the time and more importantly, the effort you've gone to..!

Would you be laughed at, for having some old video games that look like trash.. ( in 2034 )

I'm sure it would still have a good / high $$$$ value but, thats not the issue here! ;)

I have thought about this for hours. I never want to part with my collection while im alive. So I thought up a very cool plan.

When I die in my will it will say what to dow ith my games. I want a close relative or good friend to take my whole collection cross country and put the games in all different flea markets/thrifts. Try and keep the search alive.

I'll never part with my collection, which makes me seriously wonder about its durability. Will my cartridges corrode, boxes/labels fade, and my cds succumb to cd rot in my lifetime. Will my hardware fail, how many extra N64 controllers should I get now anticipating future failure, how many PS2s (or at least replacement lasers) will I need, am I destined to rebuild over and over defective 5200 controllers?

Sure, I'm never going to give up on my collection, but will it give up on me?

Sometime before I kick off, I'd like to see a real life video game museum come about, and my goodies would probably be shipped off to that entity when I'm no longer in any condition to enjoy them. Or to my kids, provided (A) that I have kids by then, and (B) that they like these nutty games the old man used to play with them, assuming they didn't just shrug it off as dad's nutty obsession, get bored and go back to the holodeck. LOL

The greatest joy of these games is to play them with someone else. I'd want to make sure that someone had the opportunity to discover that for themselves, and pass it on to their own next generation.

Yeah i figure if my kids or grandchildren are into games i will leave it to them in my will or something...unless i loose my job...my family...my house gets struck by lightning and a steamroller rolls over my jeep...then id think about selling the stuff to repair a nth of the damage done 8-)

i either probably sell it to buy music, or maybe by that time a new hip...
or if im all set on money by that time, then maybe just donate the funds generated to like a library or something.
it definetely wont be passed on to future generations- i will keep my kid(s) the hell away from video games.

But it is a good plan imagine finding some really hard to find title, for a few $$ nice!!

If I have a kid who enjoys games, I'll send em their way. If there's no good heirs to the empire, I'd have no qualm having it sent to a game museum, or even sold off to the collector market.

I don't want to part with my collection, but I would if I desperately needed the money for something important like a life saving operation. I'd like to pass it down to my children or family when I eventually die.

I'll donate it to the Smithsonian before I'd die. But untill then I'm keeping it.

With all the effort and luck involved with some of my finds I would not part with it easily.

I'm buying games right now FOR my retirement. Playing games is what I would like to do most of all when I'll finally have the time to really devote myself to it. Knowing that's what I'm going to do pre-determined that I would never need or want every game, just the best games for each system that I have. By then, maybe the new games will be so damn good that I won't really want to play the old stuff. But Hell, if that happens, how could I possibly complain? When I'm gone, I just hope somebody actually has to pry a controller out of my cold dead hands!

I think even if I ever, heaven forbid, was unable to continue playing games for some reason (or if my games became unplayable), I'd still like to have them around. I like just being able to look at them, admire the art, read the packaging, that kind of stuff. As for when I croak, eh who cares. If I got family to leave it to, then I guess it'll go to them, and if they choose to sell everything off, what'll I care. :P

I'm buying games right now FOR my retirement. !

I'm with Spartacus on this one. On my 100th birth I plan on pulling out Halo and have fun kicking Alien Ass. LOL

If you raised you kids right they will be fighting over your collection when die.
