It's not that bad.
I just wish mine wouldn't have made the decision to turn all brownish, it looks like it's been hanging out in somebody's ass for a few years...
meh, it plays my video games, that's all I care about.
EDIT: Wow, I didn't catch that little bit you just added there until after posting... what an incredibly rude thing to respond to someone with.

the plastic that they made that sucker with turns a terrible color. I dont know what the deal is with Nintendo and the fucking color purple.
I sold my SNES long ago, but then picked up the SNES type 2 in college and began collecting again. That thing doesnt color fade - at least not yet. The shape of it is MUCH like the SFC. I imported a pair of SFC original controllers to make it look cooler.
The weird thing is, the controller length for the official SFC controllers is HALF that of the official SNES controllers - odd.
I just tossed ext. cords onto them, honestly, it's worth it to me to have the multi colored butons - looks bitchin.

I guess if I had to choose, I would pick the SFC design, it's just more colorful(controller buttons), and visually appealing in general. Perhaps they thought it might be "too colorful" for us westerners, hence the toned down colors. I'd like to pickup a SFC sometime, of course, I'd like to learn Japanese too. I've heard it helps.

god i hate when they turn yellow..... my original snes turned yellow, so i traded it away, once i got a non-discolored one. then i recently got the redesign, looks much cooler, and i always wanted the redesign :D

I've read part of the design was to keep it from being flat on top, as people would set drinks on top of their NES's and spill them. :)
Also, the design was susposed to be cheaper to make, to be larger because it was felt it would sell better in the western market, and have more expansion ports.

Every time I see the Super Famicom I think of how crummy that design looks...the Model 2 is pretty good, but overall Nintendo made some crummy old console designs (excluding the TV-Game and G&W systems; they all look alright).

I'm originally from Australia so I had the PAL SNES which is just like the Famicom, when I first saw the American version I almost fell over. And yes, it is that bad - it looks like it sat in the heat for too long and the color faded from it - plus it is ugly enough to have come out of the mid-80's, not early 90's. It is one very small step away from being "wood panel" bad.

I myself like the SNES system design better than the SFC, though the dull purple could have been something else. I like the controllers of the SFC.
Since it was released though, I always though the carts looked very odd. The SFC ones were simpler, but sleeker.

I once had someone say to me that the SNES looks like something from the 1970's.....which is very true.
Someone decided to give the SNES that "spaceship designed in the 1970's or rejected Star Wars ship design" look.
The Super Fami looks nice and those multi-colored buttons are ultra nice. If i ever got my hands on some broken Super Fami controller i'm taking those buttons out and putting them in my girlfriends SNES controllers.

I've never even thought of thinking that the SNES was a bad design. Purple SUCK, and the plastic discoloration is horrible, but other than that, no complaints at all.
It's the only system that had a cart eject button so you didn't have to RRRRIIIIP the cart out of the console, Sliding on/off/reset buttons instead of "pressing" buttons, and the controllers fit nice and snugly.

I think the cartridge eject button is the greatest invention when it came to cartridge based systems. I would always try and see how high up I could eject my cartridges. LOL
