okay....my vigilante cab's monitor tube got a crack somehow and died....so, my dad bought a new (used) monitor for it...the monitor was tested and working before he brought it home...after hooking it all up it lights up but doesnt get a picture...any advice on what he can look for to do to get a picture again.....he's assuming he just has a wire wrong or something, but any help would be apprectiated...
if he gets this fixed, all 4 of my arcade machines will be fully functional
thanks,
tony

Lights up with no picture - first thought is that there's a connection missing somewhere.
Does it coin up? (put some credits on it and start the game?)

hope this helps
Model # 19K4626
120V 60Hz 70 W Max.
Wells Gardner Electronic Comp. Chicago, Il.
Rauland, Zenith Comp.
that was on the tube
What do you mean it lights up? Do you actually see something on the screen, just not the game picture? You should check to make sure the brightness/screen controls are adjusted correctly, and check that the correct wires are connected to the correct pins (they should be connected to a vertical sub-board on the 4600 series). Was this the same model monitor as the old one? The 4600's are notorious for getting bad solder joints, especially on the bottom of the main PCB where the cards connect, so you might want to check that too.

Have you tried to coin it up yet? If it is just the monitor, it should coin up.
If it doesn't coin up, then the monitor might be fine.

it does coin up fine...just no picture
appartently, he can see a light in the back...i guess that would be the yoke?...by the convergence magnets?? .. just no picture on the tube.

Hmm... could be that the power supply isn't kicking the correct numbers out to the monitor. If he's got a digital multimeter, he'll want to check all the power supply connections (+5, -5, etc.) to make sure they're correct.

That would be the heating element, and it's a good thing that it's glowing.

Usually the monitor plugs in seperately of the power supply. The fact that the tube heaters are glowing shows that it's getting minimal power. I'd crank the brightness and see if any sort of raster is present. If the heater is on but you can't see a raster at all, then the HV (high-voltage) section is probably gone. Depending on his hearing, he might also be able to hear the high-pitch sound of the HV section.

The power supply doesn't kick out anything to the monitor. The monitor takes 120vac in and makes its own power from that.
If the neck has glow, I'd check to make sure the signal cable is connected correctly (should have a red, green, blue, and probably 2 black on it).
Beyond that, make sure the 2 daughter cards on the chassis are seated completely. The 4600 series are bad about those popping out.

well, it looks like nothing seemed to fix it....but, the guy that my dad got the monitor from said he never checked it, so he told my dad to bring it back and he will take the time to test one and then give him that one.
this guy has been very nice to deal with....we got 2 monitors...1 worked fine...and he is giving us another one to switch out the busted one
so, hopefully the problem will get fixed on sunday and then the cab will be ready for me to redo the control panel wiring when i am home for fall break
if all goes as planned i will have 4 perfectly working arcade machines by october 19th
