View Full Version : Best D-Pads
What are your favorite d-pads that you love to touch and that you just can't wait to play a game with it.
Personally I love the SNES d-pads, it is just so easy to push and second most is the dual shock d-pad...i think it is amazing(isn't it the fist d-pad that isnt in the shape of a + and has seperate buttons?)

I've gone for the Saturn. I just really like the standard pad in general. It's really comfy and doesn't kill your thumb. Although I was pretty close to choosing Other for the NGPC D pad. It's pretty damn sexy :-P

It's been so long since I've really used one, it's hard to say. I would definitely put the SNES and PS 1/2 on top though, just not sure which order :)
Probly the SNES.
Its all about the Saturn Pad. Followed closly by the genisis pad.

The redesigned Japanese-style Saturn pad by a country mile.
The first time I seen a Saturn pad I really didn't know what to think, it is really wierd looking. I also added the ngp series :)

I gotta stick with the classic NES cross-style pad myself. Other may try, but it can't be beat. And remember, the SNES, GB, and N64 D Pads are all essentially descendants of the NES original.

It's not on the list but I'd vote Genesis, at least the original 3 button pad. The rounded sides were a welcome change compared to the rectangular NES and SMS pads I played on. I wasn't too keen on the 6 button version, though. everything felt kinda cramped.

Fix your topic:
a.) Look for the "Edit" button on the top right side of your post, click it
b.) Scroll down to where the poll options are listed
c.) Put "Genesis" in the slot currently occupied by "CD-i"
d.) Delete "GameCube mini-pad"
;)

Wahey, I'm gonna have to get me one of these new
"GENSIS"
systems. They sound pretty darn cool!
LOL

SNES, my favorite overall controller.
The shoulder buttons pull it ahead of the Genesis controller (Forgotten Worlds *without* shoulder buttons? WTF were they thinking?)
And yet...that's not the d-pad. The d-pad is small and has sharp enough edges that it'll wear right into your finger. The Genesis pad lets your finger sit right on it and actually curves around a bit - now that's nice.
No way the SNES d-pad beats the Genesis d-pad.

What are you talking about "GENSIS"?

NGPC.
That thumbstick conquers all.
In retrospect, the SNES controller really blows. It feels so...so....small.

As far as accuracy is concerned, the original NES D-pad can't be beat.
As for the WORST D-pad of all time, it's gotta be the SMS square pad. It's so unreliable that, not only do I frequently swerve off course from the direction I'm trying to go, but sometimes I will end up going in the OPPOSITE direction of my intended path.

NGPC.
That thumbstick conquers all.
Holy crap isn't that the truth!
But since I don't own an NGPC my vote still goes to SFC/SNES

There are several pads on the list that I haven't tried, so those are no-wins.
My personal faves:
1. GameCube
2. Genesis
3. PS1/2 Dual Shock
4. SNES
I don't like the NES or the SMS pads because of the sharp edges. Too many blisters from them!
The SMS d-pad looks strange :o

SNES is my favorite. The first game i had for the SNES was SF2. And it works perfect with that D-pad

How anyone could vote for the Game Cube pad amazes me.

i like the gameboy pad. it's firm, it's the right size, and it's not too big like the xbox pad
How anyone could vote for the Game Cube pad amazes me.
Agreed. The pad is so small it's almost pointless.
