View Full Version : Console Controller Cross-regional Compatibility

As I understand it, console game controllers aren't generally subject to regional lockouts. Right? For example, the JP Saturn pad worked fine with U.S. Saturns, didn't it?

In particular, I'm wondering whether I'd run into any problems ordering a Playstation mouse from a UK seller to use with my U.S. Playstation.

Unless there's some kinda voltage thang going on that might turn it into a mouse flambe', I wouldn't see why not. (Caveat: not that I've tried, mind you.)

The only reasons a controller from another region wouldn't work are:

The controller ports are different. (As in the Famicom, with its accessory port and the resulting differences between the NES' controller two port and the Famicom AV's.)

The controller is power by an AC adaptor (and there's no local equivalent to that adaptor available).

With that said, I currently use an import controller on my Dreamcast, and it works fine. And, with my Famicom AV, standard controllers work fine (though accessory controllers like the Zapper and the Power Pad won't work on it). So, it's safe to say you can buy the UK mouse and use it on your US machine.

I can't think of a console that HAS its own AC adaptor, not off the top of my head anyway. Is there such a thing?

Plus, if there's US/Japanese versions, you should almost always be able to swap PSUs. Saves the company retooling costs if they keep the case - nevermind the electronics of the internals - the same.

I've heard official Xbox arcade stick released in PAL area is NOT compatible with NTSC Xbox... just rumour I've heard and haven't been able to confirm - heck I haven't even seen this official Xbox arcade stick myself...

looks like good candidate for rare console accessories collection I have...

cheers

what could possibly not work are lightguns like G-Con due to 50/60Hz issues, i'm not sure though
