I have been looking for months now on anything or any information on the Top Selling videogames of all time. I don't mean popularity lists, or how good a game is. But a list of how many copies a certain game sold.

Today, when browsing the web I found this site with a list of best Selling games from '95-'04. While this is a good list, I don't know how accurate it is? And I would also like a list from back in the NES. What I would really like to know is the Top Selling Videogames of All-Time List, if there is one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Below is a link and what the actual page of the games.

HELL YEAH! Mario will ALWAYS be tops on my list. Well, this list was dated back this year in JAN. so the GTA's might have topped Mario64 by now.

suprised to see Mario 64 on top of the list ... but GTA San Andreas is coming ... and i think its coming big time. But for now, Mario for president :-P

These are the twenty best-selling video and computer games of all-time as of 2003. The list is obviously including games bundled with systems when coming up with its totals. I've seen a much more thorough list somewhere on the Internet that covers that top 100 games and has more concrete numbers, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

1. "Super Mario Bros." for NES: 40 Million Units
2. "Tetris" for Gameboy: 33 Million Units
3. "Super Mario Bros. 3" for NES: 18 Million Units
4. "Super Mario World" for SNES: 17 Million Units
5. "Super Mario Land" for Gameboy: 14 Million Units
6. "Super Mario 64" for N64: 11 Million Units
7. "The Sims" for PC: 10 Million Units
8. "Super Mario Bros. 2" for NES: 10 Million Units
9. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" for PS2: 8.5 Million Units
10. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for PSX: 8 Million Units
11. "GoldenEye" for N64: 8 Million Units
12. "Donkey Kong Country" for SNES: 8 Million Units
13. "Super Mario Kart" for SNES: 8 Million Units
14. "Pokemon Red/Blue" for Gameboy: 8 Million Units
15. "Half-Life" for PC: 8 Million Units
16. "Tomb Raider II" for PSX: 8 Million Units
17. "Final Fantasy VII" for PSX: 7.8 Million Units
18. "Myst" for PC: 7 Million Units

<scowls a bit>

I would certainly think that games like 2600 Pitfall!, Pac-Man, or ET would rank on an alltime bestseller list. :hmm:

There's the list.

As for atari games, you know they'll never make any list since not as many people played games back then, plain and simple.
As for that second list up there. Packins shouldn't count. Obviously SMB and tetris will be up there for a long time :)

I see conflicting numbers for Vice City. It would be nice to have a more informative system in place like what hollywood uses.

THE ONE, THE ONLY- RCM

I'm surprised to see that Super Smash Bros. Melee outsold both Super Mario Sunshine and Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I thought Wind Waker was a pretty big seller, but maybe I've heard wrong.

About GTA:VC, the reason the numbers are so different is because NintendoMan's list applies to US sales only. Actually Vice City has sold over 11 million units worldwide at this point (this list I posted is somewhat old).

I wish I would see some Atari games on there as well, but I don't think is there no way that any Atari game sold like the games from NES+ days. Just don't think there was as many buyers as today.
But anyways, that would be sweet to see a list of best selling atari, C64, etc. games!!

No, WindWaker is and was a big seller, but SmashBrothers was a release day title, so has had longer days on the shelf. Windwaker could have sold better I think though, but was still a big seller.
MarioSunshine doesn't get the credit it deserves as well. SSBM is a sweet title though!!!! Highest selling GC game at the moment.

Look at all those Mario's!!! Gives me goosebumbs!
That would be cool Pro. Hector if you could find that list of more concrete numbers. I just wish there was a list, like how they do with movies, of how much a game sold. Kind of surprising with the popularity knowadays that there isn't a list yet??

I second the wish that the game industry would use better sales calculations than they do - ones similar to Hollywood.

Ya Goldeneye sold more than 8 mil even i thought. I think those numbers are skewed. Pokemon Red and Blue sold over that too. Damn near everything in the top 10 is under valued for sales.

I would imagine those would be up there somewhere. Atari sold over 30 million consoles and Pac-Man and E.T. sold somewhere between 5-7 million games each. Even though they both blew chunks. :hmm: I would love to know how many Pitfall sold. :)

If that's true, then Combat should definitely be in the list that includes pack-ins. Combat was the pack-in for years, it must be between 10 and 20 million.

That's what I am looking for though, I TRUE list of everything.

I second the wish that the game industry would use better sales calculations than they do - ones similar to Hollywood.

Hollywood numbers suck. They say Gone with the Wind sold $4 million and Star Wars $400 million but don't take into account that Gone with the Wind actually sold more tickets. They don't take into account inflation.

The gaming industry's unit count is better.

I too can't believe Atari is not there. Space Invaders & Pac-Man sold a couple million copies so why is it not in the top 50?

But there are sites which take inflation into account for you and give you adjusted and un-adjusted numbers.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

Although I agree with you I would prefer to see an actual unit count for video games as the prices fluctuate very much as opposed to movie ticket prices.

For the most part bargain bins are much more prevalent for video games than dollar movie venues.

I hate modern reporters. They all act like pre-Nintendo never existed. I don't know if its deliberate, or just ignorance.
