Microplay Plano has officially closed their doors after 10 years of business. I've been a somewhat steady customer of theirs for 8 of the years they've been open. I've bought games from them ranging from new NES to new Xbox and everything in between. Even bought my Dreamcast on launch day from them (only system I've ever bought on launch day).

The fact that they were directly across the street from my office made it that much sweeter! I could head over on my lunch break and play whatever game I wanted for as long as I had. I've been friends with not only the managers, but also the owner Art. It's because of those friendships that I was allowed to scavenge through their storage room before they closed to look for treasures. Even though I couldn't buy a few of the really nice pieces due to the owner wanting to keep them (the complete toploader and sealed nes controllers come to mind), I did manage to make a pretty good haul over the past 2 weeks.

Pics are here. They are big, but load pretty quickly.

The highlights are a complete boxed japanese N64, complete boxed Neo Geo Pocket Color Sonic pack, complete 32x, Gameboy Pocket + Camera + Printer in store display, 103 loose NES, and of course, their official sign! Even with everything I got, I spent just over $350 on all of it.

Had a closing party there on sunday. Spent the day playing system linked Halo and Battlefront. I hate to see them close their doors, but at least a lot of good games have ended up in various collectors hands where they will be enjoyed rather than just collecting dust in the back room of a store.

RIP Microplay.. :(

I believe it started in Canada originally. I know that about 5 years ago, they sold off all the stores in the US. The one by me stayed a Microplay, but was a completely separate store from the ones in Canada.

Oh man....there was one in Anchorage Alaska (I used to live in Bethel, Alaska)...this comes as a shock to me...I remember it was the first store where I bought CastleVania Symphony of the Night upon release *tear* bummer... :(

I've been to the Plano Microplay a few times near it's end. Got Rambo 3 complete for Genesis there as well as a bunch of NES games. The prices were excellent and the workers were very friendly. It truly is a big loss.

Out of curiosity, how many nes carts did you get from them? I had mentioned to the owner that I would have spent a lot more money there if they had put those out, but I don't think anybody knew they were even there.

Truly sad.

The Microplay near me changed to Megaplay a few years ago, but then closed down. I wasn't a collector back then, but something inside me just made me buy the gamegear gamegenie for $10. I don't know why, but I just had to. I also bought my second DDR mat from them. That's mostly it. I wish they were still open.

I bought about 15 or so. They had a few left in the store, and then I asked if they had any in the back and they brought a dusty container full of 20 games or so, including about 4 Tengen carts, as well as some rares and commons. They never mentioned anything about games in storage.

I know a large portion of the ones I got were from the manager's private stash. He and I have been friends for a long time so he held the games back for me once he decided he didn't want them. Got a few R6 and I think even an R7 or two in there. I got about 3 or 4 Tengens as well as a stack of AVE and Color Dreams carts too.

Sucks that they closed, but at least we got some new stuff to play!

Agreed. I got a pretty good haul of titles as well including some I've been after for some time. Yes its a shame they shut down, seeing how the Dallas area is quickly running out of sources for NES games.

We have two of those here in Alaska. Good stores man, better than fucking EB games.

Much better than EB Games. Most NES prices were .99 to 3.99. Unlike the assraping prices EB charges. $17.99 for Marble Madness? Fuck that

WOW, y'all still had 'em up there? We had 'em down here in Houston for a very short time, but they all closed down for some unknown reason. I did my part to help 'em out though, I bought lots of games in my collection there. I'll never forget robbing my parent's penny jar to get the rest of the change I needed for 32X Kolibri, which I had found at the one right by their house. LOL

I had a microplay in smithaven NY...GREAT store! They came through for me twice...when socom first came out on playstation2 I went everywhere and EVERY1 was sold out (i didnt preorder) I go2 microP and 1 copy left...mine! so happy. But when xbox live first came out I never reserved it. Went to microP and the guy had one left, he told me someone reserved it but I could have it anyway, how awsome is he!
