ID'ing the DP cover characters

Alright, it's been bugging me for a while now that I can't identify 2 or 3 of the characters on the cover of the DP guides... maybe someone can fill me in on the ones I couldn't figure out?

On the cover of the 7th edition DP Guide, we have:

And on the new DP Advance Guide, we have:

Incidentally, while I was trying to figure these out, I noticed that the cover picture (http://www.digitpress.com/images/0970980728.jpg) used on DP itself had different pictures on it! Most of the characters are the same except in different places... It has Bub instead of Bob (or is that the other way around?), the 2P version of the 1942 plane, as well as Sonic, the Dragon from Space Harrier and a robot from Metal Slug (?) replacing the Space Invader, Ken, and that purple-haired girl who I don't recognize. I like how Pac-Man, the Space Invader, and Mario actually keep their same positions in the released version though I'm surprised Sonic would be removed (and where's Bonk?). It's also worth noting that the pic I linked to also lists PC-FX and SuperVision as being covered in the book!

I believe that robot is one of the Metal Slug 3 bosses, but I'm not 100% sure. :o

Maybe it'd help if you posted some links or scans of the artwork in question Ze_ro.. I for example, have no way of seeing what you're talking about :P

Alright, I scanned the characters off of both my Guide's and merged them into one picture. My scanner is pretty awful and my feeble attempts to correct the color problems seem to be in vain, but you can still make out the characters, so I suppose it's good enough. Check the picture out here (http://supernova.ath.cx/pics/dpcovers.jpg). The ones I'm still trying to figure out are the space ship just above the Ladybug (It looks pretty generic, but someone has got to know where it's from), the space ship (or maybe race car or alien?) just below Q*Bert, and the purple haired girl just to the left of Ken.

I thought the space invader-like thing was from space invaders for the gameboy... But I'm really not sure, just my best guess.
