I appologize if this has been discussed before. I was browsing through some releases on the EB website and I came across this.

So I guess my question is, Do you think this will become the new trend in gaming or just a temporary fad? And, Do you think there is actually a place for this in gaming? I have heard some stuff on the news about how some doctors are actually pushing game developers into making more games of this type.
I think its a great idea. :D

If it is a trend, I hope it lasts. I need something like this to give me a good kick in the ass off the couch. I should probably just buy a DDR pad :)

"When you make the “Commitment to Yourself!” Maya, the Yourself!Fitness personal trainer, will build a fully interactive, personalized fitness program for you, keep you motivated and deliver the results you’ve always wanted."
So does that mean she gets more naked the more fit you become like strip fitness! (tee, hee, hee!)
*Starts awkwardly shuffling feet as the realisation of the childishness of the previous staement sinks in...*

"Yourself!Fitness represents an evolution in home fitness moving beyond one-dimensional fitness videos and self-help books as it is truly personalized and fully interactive. It represents a revolution in the gaming industry as it is focused on a long neglected market segment: women"
Any game aimed at girls is doomed to fail. No offense women, but they just don't sell.

That'd be cool if it catches on. I don't need it yet, but I might by the time I get an Xbox :)

Hardly new, there have been several Exertainment products released in the past that never really caught on Dance Aerobics and the SNES Exercise Bike come to mind.

Yeah, definitely a fad. I don't really get the selling point, I'm not sure what this game offers that any bargain bin Richard Simmons tape doesn't. It's possible this might see some Christmas sales due to moms buying this for their fat kids, but other than that ... history repeats itself, and will again.

Barbie games on the GBA do horrible, and the Sims isn't "targeted" at girls, they just like it.

Not only is it a fitness game, its also a cookbook too with over 4500 recipes occurding to the back of the box. LOL

This is due to developers who can't quite shake the idea that "aimed at girls" means "stupid."

Indeed. Most of the games I see aimed at girls/women seem to be patronising, pink packaged pap (Excuse the alliteration). Most of the girls/women who come into my shop to buy are knowledgable, intelligent people - somehow I don't think too many of them would buy this! Although I don't think this is aimed at your average female games player...maybe I'll buy my mum this for Christmas LOL

This still isn't a replacement for a real live personal trainer. No video, video game, or self-help book is.

I would buy this if it had XBox Live compatability.

well, we all know how well Dance Aerobics fared on the NES. I doubt this'll do any better.

I think the problem is you people keep refering to this as a game, and I don't think it is intended to be a game. I realize the word game is used several times in the description but I think this is designed for function and not fun. This shouldnt be marketed to people who want to play games. It should be marketed to people who want to lose weight, and try a pesonalized program. It's not a bad idea overall. My fiance has tried several different videos for weight loss (even though she doesnt need them) and she usuallly uses them twice and throws them out because she gets tired of the video having several parts of excersize she doesn't need at all. I think she would prefer this, so that she with the help of the program figure out whats best for her, and then help her schedule when to do it.
Don't think of it as a new genre of game, just think of it as a new use for the xbox beyond games/dvd.

Trend, just like past ones before it.
