I like how when you report an eBay auction now, you can ONLY type in the auction number, and nothing else.

Indeed.

Excellent feedback about this guy:

Ships wrong game. Not very helpful. Needs to be taken into the street and shot.

UPDATE: Well, I got a reply from him. Here is a copy and paste of it:

Dear nintendan,

You asked:
"$19.99 for shipping?? Please e-mail me back and tell me this is a mistake."

NO MISTAKE SHIPPING AND HANDLING

That is ALL he wrote. :o

Yeah, I remember seeing this guy in the past. Low as HELL BINS with EXTREME shipping. I'm talking like 32 dollars to ship a coat. He had HORRIBLE feedback and all these people saying they were gonna sue him, ect, ect, yet why the fuck did the people decide to BIN these items with the RAPE fest of shipping? Guess they didn't read thouroughly first! Damn BIN! ;D

What is with these Parasite Eve auctions? Right after that one, I came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8135101677

Okay, so whoever had it took it out of its double case, but then it was resealed to mislead people into thinking it's new? What the hell, man... what the hell? o_O

man, i see those auctoins all the time man. they do it to make money even if the highest bid is only .01. they fear that they will actually have to sell something at 1 cent so they jack up the shipping price to make themselves money back. i don't agree with it. if you are worried about not making money on an auction, than start the 1st bid at something higher than 1 cent.

If I got charged that much shipping for that item I would force the seller to send the item in a freaking pure gold box studded with diamonds.

Sometimes you can get a steal because the shipping is so ridiculosly priced.

I got BM XXX (gc) sealed for $.01 cause shipping was $8.99
Same goes for BloodRayne

Sometimes shipping helps grab a deal, but we really should try and not cave in to paying ridiculos shipping prices. I am guilty of it though. :o

I also got a 1-cent item where shipping was nearly $9...I still felt $9 wasn't bad overall so I lived with it.

Regarding that Parasite Eve that's been re-wrapped...I don't know that the guy is trying to pull anything. The listing clearly says it's used.

The guy charging $50...now that is the most ridiculous thing I've seen so far. I wonder if the guy who bid and won the item noticed that before he bid?

Q

Why do customers bid on something with outrageous $20 shipping? Just dumb?

Rogmeister

Sometimes they probably don't even bother checking the shipping fees. THey probably figure it'll be a standard amount. Even I've done that but luckily have never gotten stuck like that. But I'm going to make it a point to check shipping fees from now on...

Q

Because some of them see a low BIN and hit the bid and submit button before reading.

So yeah , they are dumb :P

I don't think eBay is really too concerned about the 1cent starting and high shipping fees. Yes you can report them, but does the auction ever get pulled? Has anyone ever seen an auction that got pulled because of high shipping fees?

Also if you look on eBay they will advertize 1cent CD's. I think it is a whole listing catagory. Most people who are starting at 1cent have inflated shipping.

If you think about it and add shipping into what you are willing to pay it could be worth it. What if you really wanted a game, and people started it out at 12.99 with 3.00 shipping + 15.99 total right? So what is the difference if you pay 1cent for the game and 15.98 shipping. This would probably work out better because most people would scoff at the high shipping and not take as much interest in the listing.

So if you add everything up, it may be a good deal to the right person at the right time. What do we care if someone is trying to avoid fees!

Well, yeah. Technically it's the same price either way. And I know that I always take shipping into account (to the point that I'll even add things up and punch it into the USPS calculator to test accuracy).

But it says something about the seller and their product if they don't have enough faith to let the auction system work in the way it's supposed to. Think about it -- any sane person knows that the item is worth far more than a penny, and that they're basically paying exactly what the seller wants them to pay when they cave in on exorbitant shipping fees.

If you want to set your own prices, open a store at Half.com. If you want to give people a shot at finding a bargain, then give them the freedom to set their own price.

You assign too high an IQ to your customers. I listed several old videos for $2.00 bid plus $2 shipping ($4 total) and did not sell.

A week later I marked them down to 0.01 cents and $4 ship and they sold.

Same price but different results.

Ebay should be concerned about these auctions, if not for fee avoidance issues, then for customer protection. For instance, if a buyers wins a game for 1 penny and shipping & handling is $19.99, the total price is $20. The game could very well be worth $20, so the buyer doesn't care. But what if the item isn't as advertised and the buyer wants a refund. Does that mean the buyer is only entitled to 1 penny??? LOL

Anyone who buys a product from this assclown gets what they deserve.

I have no problem with it at all as long as the total cost is reasonable and the seller doesn't try to hide the shipping cost. In fact, I've bid on a few like this.

Why do customers bid on something with outrageous $20 shipping? Just dumb?

Because it's not dumb if you can save money. if the item is worth more than $30 and you only pay $1 even with a $20 shipping fee you still make out.

Different item, too, so what's the comparison? I wouldn't even begin to sell old videos for $2 each. Maybe 50 cents.

But hey, you run your auctions and I'll run mine. :)
