It's already out over there? It's not out here until the 26th. And Microsoft(who's publishing it here in the US) put a street date on it to see who'd break it. I bet they'll be watching closely, especially considering that Halo 2 will probably arrive in stores before the 8th. Kind of a test to see who listens or not.

Didn't MS also do that for Midtown Madness 3? I remember seeing some with an orange security strip up top listing the street date with "do not sell before" written in front of it. I don't blame them personally. Not after the mini-fiasco with many Best Buys selling SW: Battlefront a good week before the street date.
Outrun 2 looks nice, but it's one of those "wait till it's $20 titles for me.

MS has done this a few times. Midtown Madness 3, Project Gotham Racing 2, Rallisport Challenge, Voodoo Vince...it's not common for other companies to do it, though. And I'm sure they'll be watching Best Buy closely. Big chains like that who deal in lots of things tend to overlook rules. Specialty stores usually don't since that's all they deal in.
Back to Outrun 2, I played it in the arcade and enjoyed it. Got a bit of the Initial D arcade game feel. I'll probably wait for it to drop, since there's sooooo much coming out over the next couple of months. Who am I kidding, I'll probably go back on my word...I'm such a whore sometimes.

Please tell me it plays nothing like Burnout 3! @_@
When I think of the Out Run series, I think of street racing, not destructive mayhem. I'm trusting Sega not to mess with their formula on this license!

Not destructive. Just the driving against the traffic bit. Has a bit of a 'Crazy Taxi' feel to it. Only you're getting affection from the female companion, rather than getting fares.

I'll just buy it on the 26th.

It doesn't. It's PURE Outrun arcade action... with drifting. Sega obviously knows what Outrun is supposed to be and this is definitely Outrun in a modern skin. :)

If I get an Xbox before next summer, Outrun 2 will be the reason

It's a very fun game. The mission mode adds some pretty sweet gameplay and it's just good old arcade racing. I like drifiting for a mile ;D.
Tsk Tsk Tsk.. Cauterize  I know where you got it from LOL

I think it looks awesome, I really really do, and I love the old school style. But 39.99? C'mon Sega! C'mon! The depth of the game is very little, and it's simply an updated port of an arcade racer.
Personally, if I had 39.99 to spend, I'd pick up something just as good with much more depth. Midnight Club 2 or Need For Speed Underground....or both probably for 40 bucks!
Don't get me wrong, I want this game like crazy, I can't wait to play it! But I think I can hold myself over till it hits 19.99, the price point it should have been released at.

I played a demo and I didn't think to much of it. Its basically the same as the old arcade game with new graphics. That's all good, but for $50 I would expect something new and original, it's too simplistic. Maybe I'm just too used to the coolness of burnout 3. I'll give the full version a rent just to make sure it wasn't just the demo that was crappy though.

you're sorta missing the point. outrun 2 ROCKS because it's exactly the same as it was back in the arcades (with a few new and some xbox live modes). they even left in the hilariously funny original music and what sounds like some of the sound effects from the arcade. $40 is a tad steep for nostalgia, but if you remember the original game, this update will feel just right and then some... :D
