Bump N' Jump

*spoiler alert*

Once you beat the last guy, there's a scene of you being reunited with your girl. Then the game tells you they took your girl again or something like that (I don't exactly remember) and sends you back to the first level.

Ms. Pac-Man

Actually, I think this one does end. I seem to remember playing all the way through either this or the Genesis port, and getting an ending cartoon (about 36 levels or so).

Ghouls and Ghosts because I can't beat the damn thing.

Here's the bad part...once you beat it...you have to do it again (meaning the entire game AGAIN), because you must face the REAL boss (It's the same last boss again, but you get a better ending)

Oh and for editing purposes, that's Ghosts N' Goblins

Apparently Transformers (famicom) just loops the last level.
I feel sorry for the person that gets that far in the first place and then cant finish the game. @_@

Did anyone mention Mach Rider? Also, can sports games count? I mean, the match/game ends in a lot of them, and it returns to the title screen, but I wouldn't say that that's an ending. If they count, then how about baseball, tennis, volleyball. R.B.I. Baseball (the first one) is questionable, too.

Here's some questionable ones, as well:
Ninja Kid
R.C. Pro Am
Slalom (after you pass the last level it just starts giving you random levels)
Lunar Pool
Gyromite
Stack-Up (depends on your operational definition of "ending" here...)
Hogan's Alley
Anticipation
Wild Gunman

That's all I could come up with.

I played R.C. Pro Am to death and never reached an ending, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one.

I would consider that an ending because you are actually seeing an end sequence, and you're reunited with the person you were saving in the first place.

Here are few that may not have endings, but I'm not sure. Can anybody confrim either way?

Joust
Q*bert
Win, Lose or Draw
Taboo: The Sixth Sense
Mach Rider
The Sesame Street games

Do board games count? There's Spot, Othello, Monopoly, Battle Chess, The Chessmaster, maybe others.

I used to play Magmax and Elevator Action quite a bit, and neither had endings that I saw. Kung Fu does have an ending after you beat Mr. X, although I'm pretty sure it loops back to the beginning level afterward (but lots of NES games do that).

...Hogan's Alley...
...Wild Gunman...

That's all I could come up with.

I'm pretty sure Hogan's Alley and Wild Gunman don't have any endings, because the levels just keep getting harder and harder until (I'm guessing) it's impossible to beat.

Yeah, I'd say those are definitely infinite; after awhile they just stop getting any harder.

Hey, how about Mario Bros?

Mario Bros. was added, first post actually

As for Gauntlet 2...I dunno if it was Gauntlet or Gauntlet 2...but one of them had a Dragon at the end on level 100

William is right
Kung Fu does have an ending after you loop like 77 times there is a final sequence. What about sports games?
Volleyball (indoor)
BaseBall
Tennis

I think it was Gauntlet 1. Gauntlet II seems to run on infinite repeat.

Didn't one of the lolo games either not have a ending or was impossible to beat?

I find this highly suspect. Are you suggesting that if it were humanly possible to play through Kung Fu 77 times in one game, there would be an ending different than what normally happens after you defeat Mr. X? LOL LOL LOL

I wouldn't include Kung Fu on the list anyway, because it is similar to many games where you accomplish your mission, but instead of the game freezing it just loops you back to level 1 (ie: Contra, Castlevania) and usually at a higher rate of difficulty.

does stealth atv have an end? i remember renting that, and trying to beat it. spent at least 7 hours and was on some insane level number and realized i was wasting my time, as the levels simply seemed to scroll through over and over again...but with a higher level number.

Unless the arcade games are different , it must be Gauntlet 2.
I made it to level 430 + on Gauntlet in the arcade. Never had the patience to do it on the NES however :o

NES Gauntlet (the first one) has the dragon at the end of level 100. When you beat it, you can grab the object of your quest -- some kind of orb -- and exit. Then you're treated to a graphic of your hero standing next to the orb outside of the dungeon, with fireworks going off in the background. So there's definitely an ending. (So far I've been able to beat it with Questor and Merlin, but not with Thyra or Thor.)

Gauntlet II loops indefinitely.

Some of these games you mention have ENDINGS, but do not END. They loop instead, but this is a huge difference we should note. To name the games that loop after the ending would take forever....the game that don't have any sort of ending point at all would be an easier list.

Donkey Kong Jr. Has a definite ending sequence of you rescuing Sr. I can't remember, but does this go for Dokney Kong and DK III also?

Tetris: Nintendo verison definitely has lots of endings.

As for Kung Fu, yep, definitely has an ending, but there is a rumor going back to at least 1996 that says that if you beat the game 50 times in a row, you fight the girl...never confirmed this, nor do I know who found this out/made it up.

As for Wrecking Crew, I doubt anyone can confirm this has no ending, since no one could possible ever play through every level w/o the stage select.

Oh, and I remember Circus Charlie having an ending for sure...unless someone can show me otherwide, I remember this game being tough, but not impossible to beat.

Also, I do believe Spy Hunter Loops, but definitely has an ending at the end of the boat scene....anyone?

RC Pro Am loops, but I think it just shows you a trophy as an ending after level 32. Can someone confirm?

The Sesame St. Games have endings...just not good ones...I mean, the games do end when you complete the tasks, right?

I thought Q Bert had 32 levels in the NES version..almost positive that version ends, same with Ms Pac Man.
