are you sure it's solid orange and not just thick paint? other than that, i have no idea where that would come from :o

EDIT: never mind, looks like qixmaster answered it :P

there were self repair kits for NES controllers. So say some dog chewed on the original black d-pad.... you could go out to TRU and buy a set of buttons (A,B, Start, Select and D-Pad) and replace them yourself. What you have there is a replaced D-pad in NES controller. There were also different color buttons, but i can't recall what color?

Has anybody ever SEEN one of these self repair kits in the wild? NES Cleaning Kits are thick on the ground, but these other kits I've only heard of...

i actually own one still sealed in its package, however it has the normal colors, not the orange or bright green i have seen before. Mine is called
"rad pads." I picked them up on ebay a couple of years ago for a buck plus shipping. They are boxed up else i would take a photo or a scan. These kits are out there though.

Damn........I know they used to sell these at KMart a number of years ago. Probably about five or six years ago, my friend bought one because his A and B buttons kept acting up. The buttons were bright orange, and I actually have that controller laying around here somewhere.
