I'm very surprised that this news has not hit these boards yet...

Info, news reports and chat boards are all indicating that a large announcment will take place this month FROM Nintendo regarding something BIG about the DS. Most sources think that this could be TRUE wireless gaming, like what I was hoping for in the DS price & date thread - and I mean using Wifi hotspots and repeaters to create a true wireless online gaming community.

This info is scattered all over many different boards, but Nintendojo.com has a good amount of information, and it's organized in an article rather than 14 pages of msg board posting and fanboy wet dreams.

It's a good time to be a gamer & an even better time to be a supporter of the DS...^_^

Yeh I heard about this, been intrigued all week. Aparently its got something to do with the warpipe team, who allow you to play lan enabled cube games online. I think nintnendo has bought them out or made them 3rd party.

My opinion is that nintendo have found away of making the ds online for free, and if not online, able to pick up other ds's in a large area maybe 3km so you can play with other people in your town.

I think nintendo has allways aimed to get a free online service of this source going.

If all the speculation is true, then this could be awesome. Especially living in NYC. This announcement will no doubt determine if I get the DS at Launch or wait.

It's interesting stuff!

Wow... the DS just keeps spounding better and better. This makes the whole "ilovebees" thing look like the work of a child in my eyes.

It sounds too good to be true and honestly I feel at this point that it very well may be. I'll wait until I see concrete evidence from a site with a little integrity, rather than creaming over the swill at nintendojo.

Yeah. Warpipe are defo doing something crazy. It's called domain squatting (alright, so they just registered an eerily similar site, same difference to me).

Now, over at WARP PIPE (two P's, like a pot of coffee will get ya) they're fooling purple boxes into thinking they're talking to each other in the confines of a living room, meanwhile they're really on the INTARNET!

I can see the potential of something like that, but c'mon now, it's not gonna take off with the Nintendo DS. It'll be a cool idea that about 5% of the users will actually take advantage of. If you're in that 5%, good for you, enjoy it. But to speak of this as a "blow against the PSP" is wishful thinking ... x_x

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's been leaked:

Sega is going to release "The Matrix DS." LOL

Lame joke aside, this does seem interesting. Hmm...

Dude... think about it... you could play Animal Crossing with someone in the UK, or you could play a 4 player game of Mario 64 with your friends all over the country.

I don't doubt that the rumors and rumblings are true here... I just wish that I had some new information to bring to the table - we might as well continue to watch Warp Pipe, Nitendojo, IGN and NSider for more deets this month.

Oh, and I wanted to add that after reading a bunch of news about this off different sites, I must make it known that all of this has initially come out of www.N-sider.com. All other news sites that have claimed to have exclusive information are full of it and simply posting summaries of the msg board info from N-sider.com. Though I do feel that the summary at Nintendojo is useful because the msg board posts at N-sider is over 50 pages long now.

Apparently none of this secret project will be mentioned at the DS Press conference on October 7th, but it will be presented to the public before the release of the DS - apparently, this information will debut on the boards at N-sider.com - a collaboration of sorts between "Dean" at N-sider & the Warp Pipe team. Officla involvement on behalf of Nintendo is still sketchy at this point, but the fact that Warp Pipe says they are now funded by a big company and they just moved into official offices sure smells like N to me.

Interesting times.

Wait... DS press conference on 7 Oct? Hmm... where did you hear of this? If NIntendo is smart and tells retailers the launch games on that date, I will preorder my DS then.

I think that last one's gonna happen no matter what. But that's just me.

WiFi gaming is just icing on the delectable double-chocolate-peanut-butter DS cake, so far as I'm concerned.

And, oh yeah: the puny sum of $150 is gonna be a supreme bargain if this pans out. :D

I read about there being an official Nintendo DS press conference on October 7th at www.n-sider.com, on the DS thread to be exact. But this secret wifi super revolutionary multiplayer technology will not be mentioned at the Oct 7 conf - I don't know if the launch titles will be, but it would make a lot of sense for them (N) to do this. Apparently, whatever this multiplayer thing is, is going to be bust open in the second half of October.

Where is that guy on the DP boards here who a few months ago was all like "I'm the Nintendo DS master!" LOL maybe he knows something? LOL

If this is true all my faith will be totally restored in the big N. They've pushed me pretty far of late but this could just make up for it! Animal Crossing online would be amazing. Mario 64, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Metroid Prime Hunters - any of these online would be jsut too cool! Please, please Nintendo don't blow this one *crosses fingers and prays to the Great Gamer in the Sky*

It may also explain why Ninty have been a bit lacklustre through this generation. It would also add sense to alot of their arguments about online gaming, diminishing returns on technology and true interactive gaming...

Real-time games over wireless would certainly be kickin'

I have a feeling it may be more of a limited type of thing...but who knows? As long as I can trade Pokemon over the DS with other people from around the world, then word up.

One question about the WiFi-Hotspots that I needed answered.
If Nintendo does goes through with this, which I think they will (And haven't they always said there was a possibility of it ever since it was shown at E3), will there be any charge of any kind, like how XBOX charges were XBOX LIVE. Or since it's over the satellite or however these hotspots work, I don't understand it to the fullest, will it just be free.

YES, I can't wait. Espcially for the MarioKart thing. I need to test my skills against other people. The best people that live around me are my brother and my neighbor, and they can't hang with me.

I really don't care even if Nintendo releases hella remakes of N64 games, espcially the multiplayer ones consider the possibility of hotspots.

The thing that makes this possibility so exciting is the fact that it would most probably be free! The biggest reason N didn't want to get into the online gaming market is they didn't want to charge for it! Wi-fi connections for every other piece of equipment is free so presumably the DS would be the same. I can't see what there is to charge for - maybe a server to retain high scores and stats etc but even then I'm sure they could absorb that :-P
