Hmmm...entitled I'd say no. However, a courteous seller always does. The ones that don't are cause for concern. Chances are, they are withholding the positive as a bargaining chip because they know you will be dissatisfied for some reason. I typicially try to avoid giving repeat business to sellers who wait for me to give positive before giving mine. It's like buying something from a store and not hearing a "thank you". Nothing your entitled to per se, but pretty much if they can't give a little common courtesy they can go scratch!!

I haven't sold anything on ebay but I can say that if I did, I'd wait until the transaction was complete to leave feedback, but not based on the feedback I'd received. by not waiting your not leaving yourself any options if the buyer does something like claim theres a defect with the product, that wasn't there at all, people need to be told these things about buyers. If I earn a neg feedback, so be it, but if I don't and they leave one, shouldn't there be someway to do something about it?

On the other hand I've bought a lot of things on ebay, and to be honest some sellers are just plain jerks. About 15% of the auctions I've won (I've only left 1 neutral and that was because of horrific packing, and instructions missing, but the seller sent another copy so we removed them), I leave the seller pos feedback and they don't leave ANY. That makes me mad. I'd say only about 30% of sellers leave feedback upon payment, but it doesn't bother me as long as they DO leave feedback.

I wait until the buyer has received the product and have verified their satisfaction. I'll still leave feedback first, but I find this the best way to ensure the smoothest transactions.

I've always felt that a buyer deserves his feedback as soon as he pays but the truth is that I probably only leave feedback about once a week only because I forget about it .

if you won an auction on ebay and paid immediately via paypal, then aren't you entitled to a positive feedback immediately?

I say no and here's why.

After payment, you can still be a royal pain in the ass to deal with. Payment, in my opinion, is not the only responsibility of the buyer. For example, what if you walk into a store, write a check for an item, and walk out. The next day, the check bounces -- did that make you a good buyer? Or what if you were to buy something, pay quickly, and then on the way out of the store kick my dog? Just because someone pays quickly doesn't mean they've immediately earned positive feedback from me. I usually wait until they say they've received the item and they're happy with it, so I don't get into a situation with an unhappy buyer that now has the upper hand as they have nothing to lose in eBay's goofy feedback system.

The whole feedback thing has gotten way out of control. I've been really lucky to not get any negatives yet, I've mostly managed that by simply not leaving bad feedback to people who deserve it, fearing retalitory feedback.

Precisely my case. I NEVER leave negative feedback even if the seller TRULY deserves it (like msam24) because I know the seller/buyer will simply leave a negative feedback right in return.

But as for leaving an immediate positive after payment receival....no. Lots of things can happen after this point like Flack said.

I agree with Flack also, though Im not a seller, if I was I would also wait until the buyer leaves me a positive or contacts me with a problem after receiving the item(s). I would look at it as, The sale isnt "complete" until the buyer receives the item(s) and is satisfied with it.

Also many buyers get "Retalitory" Negatives because they dont give sellers an opportunity to correct the problem before leaving negative feedback.

well, i'll give you an example, using msam24. yes he does offer that you send him back the game for a refund, but when he charges $2 for the game and $8 to ship, why would you want to ship back? for a refund thats less than it would cost you to ship him back the game?

No, you are not "entitled" to anything other than recieving the item you have paid for. And as others have said, there's plenty of ways that a buyer can f*ck you over once they have already paid for the item - chargebacks, bounced cheques etc.

Feedback should reflect the entire transaction. Just because someone pays quickly doesn't mean they're a good buyer or someone you want to recommend. I only leave feedback after sale is totally completed. That way, I know I am being fully truthful to the other buyers and sellers.

I only leave it once I know the buyer is happy.

You give the buyer waaay too much power in a transaction if you leave feedback right after payment.

Because I'm confident in the quality of the stuff I sell on eBay, and have no doubt that any legitimate buyer will be pleased with the item when they receive it, I'm more than willing to leave good feedback just as soon as I get actual confirmation of funds successfully delivered (and as soon as I get the item to the post office).

Remember, you always have the option of leaving a follow-up comment as well if you get burned.

It's a seller's call, of course, but that's how I work it.

I generally leave feedback in groups every few weeks, but if I was paid yesterday when I do this I tend to go ahead and give the +. I also hate sellers (and buyers for that matter) that won't leave any. In the old days it was excusable because it took more work, but the way it's set up now it's just plain LAZY. I've enever gotten a neg, and only left them twice, as I tend not to in fear of retaliation. However, that won't be the case any more. I have 600+ with no negs, so if I get a few negs because people won't grow up, so be it. It won't bother me.

So what happens when you sell to someone who then lies and says they never got the product, or got something in bad condition when you know it was good when you sent it? That's what I worry about.

I went through this a while back with a lady who paid promptly and then complained for a month because she said the item was for her son's birthday and that I shipped it a day too late and it missed the party and now her son's scarred for life and may need therapy because the used GBA game I shipped wasn't there on time -- all stuff she mentioned after she paid and the game had left my hands. Had I already left her positive feedback, I would have been screwed. She paid quickly, but by the end of that transaction I was just about ready to get in my car, drive to Arizona and punch that lady and her kid in the face. Twice.

1) I take excellent photos, and usually lots of them (or at least better than most I've seen on eBay) -- if it ever came to arbitration, there's no way I could be accused of misrepresentation.

2) I save all my receipts (main transaction and any insurance or customs forms, if used) from the post office until I get positive feedback from the buyer.

3) Re: Arizona woman. Yeah, I love people whose needs become exceedingly urgent as soon as money changes hands. If they hadn't planned on a week for shipping, that's not my problem (unless they shell out for Priority).

When I'm selling I don't leave feedback until the buyer does. When buying things I USUALLY don't leave feedback unless the seller does. The reason? I don't want some 12 year-old to get his kicks by leaving me a negative after I hive him a postiive, leaving me with a negative and no way to retaliate.

No because some buyers get the item & then charge it back. They don't deserve a positive!

Here's a perfect example of why the entire feedback system is going to shit.

Oh, and as far as people who try to file chargebacks, they can only do so if the pay with Paypal and if you save your delivery confirmation receipts you have nothing to worry about.
