Alright, I've heard for ages how great this is, but before I drop that kind of cash, I want to try it out. I tried to download it, but I can't even find proof that the game has been dumped. Does it go by another name as well?

Tsumi to Batsu: Chikyu no Keishousha

The translation means Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth. If the hiragana is a little off, blame GameFAQs. I don't have my copy with me at the moment, so I can't check myself for accuracy.

Thanks, I spent way too much time looking for the wrong thing.

Drop the cash, man, drop it! This game is fantastic. It's a damn shame the N64 went belly-up before this could be released in the States... it's already localized and everything. I remember reading an interview with Treasure (the developers) and it was on the release USA schedule.

It's a bunch of different gaming styles... Panzer Dragoon-ish shooting, running-jumping-dodging, sideways boss fights, a phenominal battle scene where you're flying all around a huge armada on a chunk of roadway... it really is super-cool. There's probably much more, but I got killed. The graphics are superb, and it doesn't even use the expansion pak.

How are the N64 emulators nowadays, anyway?

It's weird this topic is up... I was going to plug in this game LAST NIGHT but I figured I'd stay up too late playing it (I haven't beaten it yet.)

I also found a N64 import called "Neon Genesis Evangelion" or something like that this past weekend... I need to try that out, too, though I hear it's not so good.

Cheers :D

Would imagine that to be a shameless cash-in :(

Here's one I've been wondering about for a while: is there a Japanese release of the SNES title Run Saber? I'd really like to know.

Cash? I paid $25 for mine, mint complete. Isn't it only about $40 normally?

Alternative, you could allways pick up the iQue version (http://www.ique.com/games/game_sin_pun.jsp).

Not really always since no one seems to re-flash the cards for Westerners.

I got mine for 40 dollars brand new on eBay, but that was a year or two ago. I'd say it's the easiest N64 import to get due to the fact that there is so much interest people have in it. Of course, that interest is also the reason why it consistently goes for a fair chunk of money.

Also bump for Run Saber's title if there is a Japanese version... :o

I pulled this game out from storage yesterday and hooked it up to my N64 with a $10 pass-through adaptor. Man, I had forgotten what a completely AWESOME game this is!

The control takes a bit getting used to... you aim your gun with the analog controller (you may also switch to an auto-aiming gun this is less powerful) and you fire with the Z trigger. If an enemy is close enough, you can use the Z trigger to use your sword instead--- it inflects major damage and is instrumental in defeating some bosses. You also use it A LOT to deflect the loads of bombs and missiles that are being lobbed your way.

You use the small yellow buttons to move left and right, and you also press the buttons to roll. You use the shoulder buttons to jump and double jump.

From what I can tell, the plot involves a furture earth where the population has grown to the point where people are starving, and an island off Japan is used to harvest a new kind of animal food source. The animals mutate and kill all the farmers, then invade mainland Japan. There's some bit invovling the sharing of blood and a lot of mutation.

The action is non-stop and keeps changing styles. You'd better get familiar with the controls or you're going to die. A lot. The whole game is in English was Japanese subtitles.

The graphics aren't as impressive as I remember, though some parts of it are still uber-cool.This game debuted a year after the Dreamcast, and I've been spoiled on DC and X-Box visuals. Everyone is very angular and pointy. The part where you fly all around on a platform made form the deck of a ship and move in EVERY direction around a fleet of aircraft carriers, seafaring ships, helicopters, and flying enemies is STILL amaizng, though... I'm shocked that the N64 can crank out graphics of this quality and detail with no slowdown and no RAM pak. It really is something to see!

I got killed a lot and didn't make it much past the halfway point, but now I'm more prepared to take on the bosses and use my sword more. Practice makes perfect!

I highly recommend picking up this game if you have an N64. You can easily modify either the cart or your N64 to accept imports. Don't buy that Neon Evangelion game, though... it's crap!

Cheers

Poor Japan. Always getting attacked by monsters.

I really want to find this game. I collect to play. This looks like one I definitely want to play.

For those of you who have Sin and Punishment.

How do you play it on your N64?
Do you use a Gameshark, EMS Passport III, a modded N64, or other method?

Well I used to use a GameShark...or mod it yourself! (Actually one of the easiest non-messy Mods to do on a system next to the SNES I'd say)

I melted out the tabs in the slot in my N64. Not the prettiest method, but probably the quickest and easiest.

Not too bad, really... I'm going to have to re-install my Voodoo2 one of these days before I start messing with N64 emulators again, though; it actually worked quite a bit better with the various graphics plugins than my GeForce4 MX.

I finally finished this game... it truly is awesome. Using the sword attack to deflect projectiles made all the differance (plus they load you up with continues at the end.)

Cheers

I modded my N64. With a big knife.

I'm wondering if a Japanese N64 will play domestic games...I'll have a chance to find out soon enough :)

Yay! Would you happen to know about PAL games? My vote is yes, but you seem to be the man in the know right now :)

I'd like to know this as well, PAL games are flooded all over Ebay at the moment and they are sitting at dirt cheap prices

Forgot to mention that you'll have to remove the tabs from the JAP console to play US games but that's a chore anyways.
PAL games won't play on US/JAP console without an adapter. You can take the security chip from a PAL N64 and stuck it on top of it's US equivalent to get a "region-free" N64 but unless you really like modding it isn't what I'd recommend.

That system has tabs, too? Well, I'd say that was a pretty important omission...oh well, I'm getting an import N64 for import titles, as I've had my original N64 for years and I'm not about to let it go anywhere LOL

Ok, what other alternatives are there to play PAL games on N64 besides the chip?

Sorry to get you all hyped up for nothing. :embarrassed:
PAL and JAP cart slots/carts are the same shape, US slot has the tabs on the very outer edges.

@SGNG There are adapters of course, I think they have been discussed before on these boards. I don't know much about them, I've always hated using one.

Would you recommend a GameShark for PAL games?
