A while back I bought a used ps2 from gamestop and it was dirty as hell, so I returned it for a new ps2. Well due to lazyness and playing other games, I haven't opened the new ps2 at all. Now that this mini ps2 will be out soon, I wanna return this thing and get one of those, but I have no receipt.
Anyone know if any of the major stores will allow me to return an unopened ps2 without a receipt, for store credit?

Earlier this summer, I returned a unopened SOCOM 2 for store credit at Best Buy. I didn't have the receipt anymore but the original BB price sticker was still on there. You should try returning it to them.

I'd be weary of trying to pull one over on bestbuy if at all possible because they heavily look out for these kinds of shrink issues and if they catch you in the act of basically trying to steal 150 bucks from em, I know at least from working at my store they will NOT be happy. I doubt they could really do anything about it, but ya never know, you may get away clean. So, whatever you think you have the best chance at.

Butta:
Gamestop's policy on returns is that you have to have the receipt, and it must be within 7 days. Getting them to break on that, especially with a new PS2, are slim to none. Too many people are trying to return/trade in stolen goods now, so everyone is pretty cautious.
A question: is it one of the models with the + sign in the corner? If not, then you'd have a tough time returning it since most, if not all, stores only have those.
No major stores I know about do that w/o receipt, though.

It really can't hurt to try. You have nothing to lose.
Dress nicely, leave any attitude at the door, and say that it was purchased as a gift fora young child. If they will only offer credit, take it, but use it at a later date or in another store. I have returned many items that were beyond date and even open(!) by saying that the parents of the little one the gift was for disapproved.

Wal-Mart pretty well has a no questions asked kind of deal around here. I've never personally done it, but I know several people have, and it has worked for them.

how do you figure i'm trying to steal $150 from them. they're getting an unopened ps2, which for now is worth $150 to them. and i'd only be getting store credit, which i'd be spending at one of their stores.
@oob, yea it's a ps2 with the + in the corner.

If it's unopened, it's 30 w/reciept from Gamestop.
If it's new & opened, you're screwed.

I agree on the Wal-Mart thing. They take back a lot.

The Wal Marts around here (R.I) don't ask any questions either. If I was gonna try that I'd do it to Wal Mart, cause they're unsavory to begin with.

If you can wait until after the holiday, tell 'em grandma bought you the wrong thing and she lost the receipt. Or say she bought it for your birthday or something.
If you're lucky enough to have a grandma around, bring her along for a sure thing. :)

I wish I lived near you guys. Here in southern Illionis it's hard returning ANYTHING without a reciept. I've heard stories of people returning OPEN games / PS2s for CASH back. Thats just crazy.

I would sell it on ebay. You might not get exactly $150 for it but you could get around that. After they release the new one you "might" have a hard time selling the old model for a higher price. :hmm:
