I thought it was the other way around, the less you handle the disc the better chances of it not getting scratched.. why would it get scratched if it were left inert in the console..? Unless you kicked the game system around.

That is what I thought too. I leave my ps2 games in the system all the time. The only thing that happens to me is that the disc gets a dust build up on it. :hmm: It wipes off very easily with a cd cleaning clothe though.

it ok to leave you game(disc only) in you system , if that game comes out with a ring scratch after gameplay something is wrongwith the system(laser too close/dirty or it may be an foriegn object inthe system)
it not wise to leave carts in in systems(pin) it tend to ruins the pins on the system !!!

Are you leaving the system running, or shutting it off?

I've had no problems leaving my game sin the system at various times either. just remember to shut off the PS2 when you're done.

it is the same as leaving the game in the case...except, you are more likely to be careful with your system than you are with your game case...and, you are less likely to move your system around once it is hooked up

cases can easily get stepped on and games can get cracked.....its a lot harder to do that to a system

Yeah, unless you are wreslting with your console, no damage will occur.

With cartridge based systems though I have always thought that leaving the game in would leave more tear on the connectors and flaps.
