Yes. If it's JAMMA, then of course. No need for the kick harness either.

Does that cound the trip to the ER for when he leans on the monitor's anode cap while bending over?

you make a good point....yea racecar....dont touch your monitor unless you know what you are doing and need to touch it for some reason

You know, like if you really have a pressing need to spend more time with your doctor.

Worse thing about doing a cap kit is getting up the balls to actually jab a screwdriver under that suction cup <shudder>
Edit - witha wire connected to the screwdriver and into the ground on the wall, wearing rubber. I don't want anyone to try this just based off my post for chrissakes.

def. do not ever try this unless you are completely sure that you know what you are doing....my father works with electronics for the army professionally and he was even a little apprehensive at doing this...he did put a cap kit on a monitor for me, but, even a pro read everything i could find for him before he even attempted this

Yeah, because it's surprising how much juice those damn caps can hold...and everybody knows electricity has a nasty habit of jumping around plastic and rubber barriers, even really thick ones.

So how is the 4th button worked? will it just play automatically or is he suppose to wire something for it? I thought Jamma was a 3 button design, the CPS uses a separate kick harness for the second row of buttons & keeps the jamma namesake or Jamma+ but I thought something had to be wired slightly different from standard jamma to the 4th button if all are to be used in MVS games.

JAMMA - Japanese Arcade Machine Manufacturers Association. It's just a standard harness that lets you wire the electronics to standardized cabinet internals.
The limits in JAMMA are FOUR buttons and two players...not three buttons.

Never ever knew that -- I just knew it was a standard interface. :)

You sure about that?

I've not seen any 4 button jamma games. From what I understood with the Capcom CPS-II games it will have 3 buttons wired from the jamma harness & the other 3 are thru the kick. The kick is a separate plugin, not part of the actual Jamma plug. For an MVS cart that uses all 4 buttons, I believe you would need to wire in one more button back into the jamma harness that's left out. :hmm:
What are some other 4-button jamma games that are non-MVS and not Jamma+?

Not true. JAMMA only covers 3 buttons. Anything beyond is JAMMA plus, even if it's added to the JAMMA connector. Most likely he will have to add wiring for the extra button to cover the MVS pinout. The only cabs I've ever seen that had this were existing Neo cabs.

Cyberbots on CPS-2 apparently uses the same 4 button layout as MVS and requires no kick harness. That's just one example.

:hmm: Not so says the manual (http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/gamelist.html). It's available via PDF d/l from that page.
It shows it as:
Attack 1, Attack 2, & Boost thru the Jamma harness
& Weapon thru a separate harness.
There are some CPS games that only use the 3 buttons, and require no kick, but for anything over 3 I believe all will go through the kick. There are a couple different versions too, the original CPS was a smaller kick, almost flat, the CPS-2 is a larger rectangular plug-in.
Sound might be something to consider too, MVS is capable of producing Stereo thru the jamma plugin, but standard jamma is mono only. Since CPS-2 A boards have that Q-sound, they actually use RCA jacks on the board, the speakers in the cabinet might be wired with plug-ins for the rca jacks, not into the jamma harness either. Depends on what was originally in this cab & what has been done to it over the years. It could be wired both ways. But some MVS boards have headphone jacks, so a spliter could be bought to change 1/8 to a pair of rcas to connect to them possibly bypass the jamma edge connections if it's not currently wired in and the poster doesn't won't to get too involved.
Honestly though, it's not terribly difficult to wire up some joysticks or buttons, if you're gonna own a cab you should at least learn how to make changes & take care of it. Should be a breeze to get it completely compatible with the mvs board, then no worries when he picks up any of those 4 button games.

Funky. A guy I know who has the game claimed otherwise, but I've never seen it myself, so why believe it? ;)
