I just got my brother a used Xbox system from Gamerush and the thing died on him (discs won't load up). He's bringing it back to get a replacement but he's got a 1 year Live subscription on the broken one. Can he somehow transfer this over to the new Xbox? If so, how?

If the old one boots, then you can put the Live subscription onto a memory card and transfer it that way.

that works
and you can also, if the system doesnt boot up, transfer it using your subscription info....i have never done this, but it should work
the easiest thing though is to use fahvergnugen's info and copy the live account onto a memory card....i have had my live account on all 3 of my xboxes and they all worked just fine with it

Thanks for the tips guys but my brother doesn't have a memory card for his Xbox and I doubt he'll spend $20-$30 to get one. He does has his Live subscription card though. As long as he has that, he can still use it to subscribe to Live on his new system, right?

I've transferred my live account in the past. They ask you a few questions like credit card #, and a few other things if I remember correctly.

i have a hunch that they do it by having you enter your name, address, etc, and you credit card number, and then they probably check to make sure that is a valid account and then it probably makes the save on your xbox hdd....the same save that would be transferable if you had a Memory card
you can probably call the 1-800 # to make sure it is transferable without a memory card

I've done this many times actually. There are 2 ways to do this, one is "temporary" the other is more permanent.
For the sake of argument if you did have a memory card, all you can do is make a copy of your live account so you can use it on another Xbox (for example if you're going to a friend's house and want to use your live account there). You CAN'T copy the Live account from the memory unit to the new Xbox. It won't let you.
The proper method is: On the new Xbox:
-Go to the Dashboard
-Go to Xbox Live
-Go to Account Recovery
You then have to enter your name, address, credit card number EXACTLY as you did when you set up your Live account. By exactly I mean spelling, punctuation, upper/lower case, etc has to be IDENTICAL or it will reject the info.
Once that's done, your Live account will be linked to the new Xbox, and if you were to try to log on from the old Xbox, it wouldn't let you.
There you have it...
