This was reported a while ago - the topic should be locked, but before that I must recomend that if you have the chance, PURCHASE the Trance Vibrator for REZ - obviously it never came out in the US - but it works on all PS2's and versions of the game. I put it under my game chair seat cushon, it's about 20 times as strong as the Dual Shock vibration.
I have not gotten perverted with it.
Still searching for thos headphones. wish me luck.

Yeah, it's not quite as good - occasionally jerky frame-rate & less 'sharp' graphics (though naturally, that depends on how you're viewing it).

The Dreamcast version does seem a bit sharper or crisper as far as grphics are concerned. I like using the PS2 controller much better than the DC controller and of course there is the Trance Vibrator which is PS2 only. I like playing it on the DC b/c it's the native platform, but in the end I chose to put my DC in the closet and kept the PS2 version available for Playing.
When does the re-release come out? If it's different cover art, I'll totally pick it up.

What?
Let's see...we have a PS2 port of a DC game that I'm sure by this point has recuped development expenses and turned a profit. The game has a cult following and (if true) Sega decides to reissue the game at a price point that pleases those who missed out and probably encourages a ton of impulse purchases and is (almost) nothing but profit for them.
How is that dumb? Were they supposed to gouge people with "collector" prices? Was Square dumb for reissuing Tactics for $20? And what about that crappy Dragonball game that was reissued for $20?

I agree with you, this is a smart move on Sega's part, and a great move for players that didn't get the chance to witness, let alone play, this game when it was first released (like myself). Any idea as to WHEN this game is to come out?
BTW, CBGT: FB was rereleased at $15. But that's just nitpicking, it doesn't matter much; the game wasn't anything great or special.

Sega not dumb? Look at where they were ten years ago and look at where they are now. They've made a lot of great games in that time, but their decision making has been ABSOLUTELY DUMB. I scarcely know where to begin. Sega CD? Dumb. 32X? Dumb. Surprise Saturn launch? Dumb. Nomad? Dumb. Dreamcast? Dumb (great but dumb). Then they decide to make this big comeback going software only - with niche titles like Rez and dead and buried franchises like the Matrix? DUMB

Let's see...we have a game with a low initial production run that Circuit City was blowing out the door two years later (and all these people who can't find Rez must be looking under rocks). The game has a cult following if roughly 80 people, 40 of whom already have it.
The fact that it's a port of a DC game works in its favor?
You're really comparing Rez to a Final Fantasy franchise game? Really?
What person on the street buys Rez as an impulse purchase? "Let's see, I'll take the Buttefingerbar, the Pac Man fuzzy dice, a couple of 9-volt batteries, and this mysterious Sega music game that was released 3 years ago that no one's ever heard of."

Yes, the Trance Vibrator works just fine with a U.S. PS2 running a U.S. copy of Rez.
And it should be pointed out that you can operate two Trance Vibrators simultaneously from a single PS2 running Rez. As far as I'm concerned, it should be the official DP setup. Double good, double fresh.

Umm...what? Cult follwing of roughly 80 people? Mmmkay.

You're two for two on missing my point here. The fact that it's a DC game (which I don't think is a bad thing, you seem to, but we'll leave personal preference out of it) means they've most likely recouped any development cost so a re-issue is going to be pure profit at this point.
And I was compairing Rez to release of a sepecific game in the Final Fantasy series which also had a low print run, developed a cult following and was reissued at a low price point. From that point, I think the compairson is a valid one.
What person on the street buys Rez as an impulse purchase? "Let's see, I'll take the Buttefingerbar, the Pac Man fuzzy dice, a couple of 9-volt batteries, and this mysterious Sega music game that was released 3 years ago that no one's ever heard of."
Well, I guess we'll find out if the rumours are true, won't we?
Also, in your other post you seem to think Sega is dumb for releasing "niche" titles. I'm just curious, what would your rather have them do? Fart out mindless franchise titles that are essentially last year's game with better graphics? GTA and Tony Hawk clones?
I don't quite see it the way you do. Rather than "niche" titles, I think the company is doing what they've always done and is taking chances which is a good thing. I know some people seem to enjoy playing yet another variation of save the princess/world/whatever, but frankly I'm sick of that crap. I think it's good that Sega is willing to take risks and thought they don't always work out, that's part of risk taking.
It's sad that most people only seem to want more of the same, but you can't blame Sega for trying.

I'm exagerrating here. My point is there's very little demand for this game in the real world, even though there may be high demand in the Digital Press World.
The fact that it's a port of a DC game works in its favor?

I don't think it's a "bad" thing that it's a DC port, I just don't think there are a lot of people running around looking for ports of DC games; that doesn't help. I'm not sure what your criteria for determining the development costs is exactly, so I can't answer that one. The re-issue is only pure profit if it sells; theoretically, they could reissue any darn thing for "pure profit" if they can sell it. I think Panzer Dragoon Saga would be an infinitely better choice if they were going that way.
And I was compairing Rez to release of a sepecific game in the Final Fantasy series which also had a low print run, developed a cult following and was reissued at a low price point. From that point, I think the compairson is a valid one.
IIRC Tactics followed either VII or VIII. While not a sequel in the official sense, it was still an entry in a blockbuster series, even if only in a "side story" kind of sense. Therefore, it has extra drawing power based on the Final Fantasy name, not to mention that it was probably a best seller at the beginning of its GH run, something I don't think you could realistically expect to happen to Rez. Rez doesn't have that kind of clout. It's far from having an instantly recognizable title. The only comparison you could possibly draw here is that they are both GH releases; but Rez is still just a rumor.
Also, in your other post you seem to think Sega is dumb for releasing "niche" titles. I'm just curious, what would your rather have them do? Fart out mindless franchise titles that are essentially last year's game with better graphics? GTA and Tony Hawk clones?
There's a difference between what I want and what's smart for the company to do. I loved it when Sega came out with a $20 football game. It
's highly questionable (and already thoroughly debated) if that was a smart thing to do. What I'd like Sega to do is begin supporting the Dreamcast again and give us that version of Rez for $20. Is that smart or dumb?
I don't quite see it the way you do. Rather than "niche" titles, I think the company is doing what they've always done and is taking chances which is a good thing. I know some people seem to enjoy playing yet another variation of save the princess/world/whatever, but frankly I'm sick of that crap. I think it's good that Sega is willing to take risks and thought they don't always work out, that's part of risk taking.
Actually, I mostly agree with you here. But...you say "they don't always work out"...can you think of the last gamble Sega tried that worked out?
It's sad that most people only seem to want more of the same, but you can't blame Sega for trying.
As a gamer, I'm fine with what they're doing. But I'm sure glad I'm not a shareholder in that company because they make stupid decisions. They could have sold me a deluxe Rez with a couple more levels and a CD soundtrack for $60 (and I already paid them for the first one). Coming out with an old game that hardly any paid attention to the first time around = dumb.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I must beg to differ here. I think Stephen Kent put it best: "Every serious gamer HAS to own a copy of Shaq-Fu, a Shquille O'Neil fighting game."
But hey, whatever.
I hadn't heard of Rez when it was first released, and I didn't know just what kind of a game it was until probably two months or so ago. I'm looking forward to it now, though!

All right. I'm listening. But considering that I've already played the PS2 version and all, in your opinion is it worth it to go back to the market now and find a DC Rez? And buy a VGA box? In your opinion, of course. And my mileage may vary, etc. And what's an import Rez running these days, anyway? Finally, since I normally play JP imports on my DC using a Cheats n Codes disc, would I be looking for the EU Rez or the JP Rez?

Oh man, I gotta get me a Vibrator then! Disaster Report is one of my favorite PS2 games and I thought the rumble effect in just the Dual Shock controller was totally intense for it. It's gotta be ridiculously insane when played the the Vibrator though.
Does the Trance Vibrator work on US PS2's? I thought I remember reading somewhere that it didn't.
I think the Rez re-release rumor is complete B.S. It surfaced more than a year ago and there has still been no re-release yet. I think it's safe to say that it won't be coming out.

I got my JP Rez in medicore condition for about 500 yen. If you look around, they're not that expensive. I can't speak for the EU version. As for getting the VGA box... man, it's unreal. I can't believe I waited so long to do it... especially if you ever plan on getting an HDTV with VGA in! So in short, I think you should get the VGA regardless as long as you play your DC on a regular. And if you do like the game (IE -- still play it now) then I'd say yeah, grab the DC version and sell the PS2 one.

Yeah. I have a nice leather easychair that I sit in when I play games. The seat cushon can be lifted up. Take the trance vibrator and put it under the seat cushon. Then setup your stereo with surround sound. The whole chair will shake and so will your brain!

That's a really nice story but as far as I know Sega has never officially said a thing about re-releasing the game. Everything being talked about are all rumors that were created and are kept alive by gamers who still need a copy and are hoping (wishing) for the best.

Can you confirm this for the US release? I know it works with the Japanese version, but have not read that anyone has specifically used the Trance Vibrator on a US PS2 with a US copy of Disaster report.
I hope it does work, 'cause I'm a gaming peripheral freak!
From what I've read on various forums (http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=18821) it should work. My Trace Vibrator is in the mail right now but give me a few days and I'll try to confirm it. Or I will be able to confirm that the Japanese vibrator works on a chipped European PS2 with a US copy of the game.

I will test this out with my unmodded U.S. PS2 running the U.S. release version of Disaster report. PM me to remind me if I forget to report back here in a timely fashion. :)

I emailed Sega at the beginning of March (2005) about re-releasing REZ, and after getting a canned response to look at the release section of their site, and then emailing them again (if you want an answer they make you email them twice), an actual person wrote me back! Here is the response I got on March 10, 2005:
"Thank you for e-mailing Sega Technical Support.
There have been no announcements from Sega of America that REZ will be released again.
Information about future Sega game releases is shown at our web site.
Just go to www.sega.com and select Sega of America. Future releases are given by Title, by the Platform, and by the ESRB (rating).
Please visit this site frequently to get the most current information about Sega and Sega games.
Sincerely,

So there you have it - NO rerelease planned.
I broke down and ordered a used copy of Rez for the Dreamcast from someone in Japan (they gave me a great price ($33 shipped!), but of course I had to get a mod disc to play it on my U.S. DC (another $20 from the Goat Store and regular poster goatdan). I'm still waiting for that as well as the game.
BUT, my persistence on ebay paid off, and I grabbed a U.S. PS2 version of REZ from a buy it now auction (less than an hour after it was listed!) for $50 last week (+ $10 shipping, ouch), but I got it within 2 days!!! Gotta love paypal and priority mail. It's in dead mint condition, no scratches, no fingerprints, even the box looks new.
Now that I have the PS2 version, I of course had to find out what the huzzah about the Trance Vibe was all about - add another $25 (shipped) and I have spent way too much on this game. But I look forward to comparing the DC version to the PS2 version. It is a really cool looking game, I must say. It is a shooter, which means lots of button mashing, but boy is it fun.
I decided to stay away from the UK PAL Dreamcast release of the game (more common on ebay than the Japanese NTSC version), because PAL video format has less lines of resolution than NTSC (which is used in the U.S. and Japan, amongst others), from what I understand. So, if you want to play Rez, plan on paying for it. It is totally worth it though, unless you are prone to flashing light induced seizures, then you better stay away - seriously!

Actually, it's the other way round, NTSC has a lower vertical resolution than PAL, but the refresh rate is higher (60hz NTSC vs 50hz PAL).
Heh, it's really weird that Rez goes for such an amount of money in the US, you can get the PS2 version here for 15€ used in a store (they've got at least two copies :)

Ironically, I paid for my Euro Dreamcast version ($20) than I did for my U.S. PS2 version (free). 8-)

Sweet. I know that I'll eventually be able to test this out myself, but I'm itchin' to know if they left support for it in.

Robotriot is correct about the resolution thing, but it doesn't matter anyway -- the Euro version of Rez is perfectly able to run in 60hz, on a TV or (preferably) a VGA monitor.

Ok, I couldn't remember exactly how that worked - thanks. So which version would look better, or is it all relative? (I hope I didn't just start a trans-Atlantic war on video resolution!!).

LOL
Very cool I remember reading about this months ago i mentoined it somewhere and people told me not to get my hopes up.
I wonder if the rerelease will be different like the DBZ GT Final Bout was with art and such.
I would want to get the original version as well as the rerelease.

The title of this thread is misleading, so for those that don't read through a thread before you post:
Rez is NOT being re-released!
Read the thread for the lowdown.
