Just thought this might be of interest to anyone in the Portland, OR area. Ground Kontrol is a retro arcade that just moved to a new location. They're having a grand reopening party on Thursday, Oct. 7'th from noon-midnight.

Here's more information from their website (http://www.groundkontrol.com/news/index.php):

Ground Kontrol is now open for business at our new location, 511 NW Couch Street. GK 2.0 has a more open and electric atmosphere, room for new games, an antique bar for serving drinks at parties, and restrooms!

We're conveniently located on the bus mall. If you live or work downtown, just jump on a 6th Ave. Northbound bus and get off at the first stop after Burnside. Travelling by car or bike? We're near the Burnside, Steel, and Broadway bridges. For more detailed directions, see this map (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=address&searchtype=address&address=511+nw+couch+street&city=portland&state=or&zipcode=&search=++Search++target=).

Our new neighborhood has even more to offer. If your partner or friends can't match your game-playing stamina, they can visit Just Be Toys, The PDX Fashion Incubator, or one of the many nearby art galleries such as Backspace, Motel, Compound, or Butters Gallery.

In keeping with the Old Town/Chinatown spirit, we will participate in First Thursdays by holding late-night events. The first is Launch, our all-day grand reopening party on October 7th featuring local bands, DJs, and prize drawings for classic Atari 2600, NES, Super Nintendo, and PlayStation home videogame systems.

I wish I lived there, or was just visiting - I'd love to be there.

The only arcade I knew of that wa sany good was one across from...um....shit it's been so long since I've been to Portland that I can't remember. There's a big mall right off the freeway, and across the street was a nice little arcade...

Maxlords,

In the early 90's there was an arcade across from Clackamas Town Center on 82nd ave. CTC was right off I-205 and the arcade was was right across the street in a free standing building.

Does that sound familiar?

I used to go there when I lived in Clackamas back in the day but I haven't been out there in years. There used to be a nickle arcade in the Gateway district which I used to go to a lot in the early 90's, I usually played pinball and jackal at that location. It was like $5 to get in and all games where a nickle.

Wunderland was across from Clackamas Town Center. There were several of them years ago. There is still one on SE Belmont near 39th. It's called Avalon and they have a theatre as well. I'm pretty sure it is owned by the same people who had the Wunderland chain. You pay about $3.00 to get in and the games run on nickels (usually 4 of them). Avalon has mostly mid-late 90's Arcade games and that's about the best we have in Portland. In the early-mid 80's there was an arcade inside Clackamas Town Center and my friends and I would ride the bus there and play all day.
