I want to get an addone for my genesis and I already have the SegaCD. I'm having trouble decided wether I should get the 32x or the MasterSystem Adapter. Which one has the single best game?

Obviously the reason for the delay of the second purchase is money, so I'd only get a game or two for the adapter initially. Which one first, and which games with it?

well here is the thing dude:

you can get way more sms games than you can 32x games (only 30 something 32x games were made).

but...
star wars: arcade is on 32x, and damn, I love that game alot. It goes for super cheap, and I have an extra if you need one for cheap :)

if you can only get one,get the power base converter.there is alot of cheap master system game to be had,and a lot of good ones as well.you will get more playability with the power base converter.

If you are planning to pay anymore than $10.00 for an SMS adapter just get a console, cause that's about what they go for. I would go for the 32x (I'm currently trying to get one myself), it's a decent add-on with a decent selection of games, and it's easy to collect for because it doesn't have many titles and thay are all cheap except for one, Crypt Killer will run you about $15 or so on ebay.

I have a 32x and it only has about 4 or 5 games that interest me but I'd love to have a Master System adapter simply because there are more SMS games that I want to play.

Also I run across SMS games in the wild all the time and cheap too. :)

What games are good on the SMS that work on the adapter?

Alien Syndrome
Double Dragon
Alex the Kidd in Shinobi World (woot!)
Alex the Kidd in Miracle World
Space Harrier
Shinobi
Spy Vs. Spy (oh that's a personal favorite of mine)
OutRun
Reggie Jackson's Baseball
R-Type
Rambo: The First Blood
Rambo 3
Sonic the HedgeHog
Ghouls N' Ghosts

Oh how I miss my Sega Master System...it's the only system I never rebought since I sold it back in 1989 :(

You'd honestly prbably find the SMS games far more enjoyable. A lot of 32x games are blah.

Man, that's great. It's been hard to find games in the wild where I live.

BTW, I feel it's pretty slim pickins for quality games on both systems, but I'd say get the Master System converter because overall there are better games on the SMS.

You'll have a hard time finding a "SegaMaster Adapter" indeed. Try "Power Base Converter" instead ;D

So...Crypt Killer is a 32x game? I honestly like that game; if it's the Konami arcade shooter we're talking about, anyway.

maybe this is just me (but I doubt it on these boards) but I've always liked haveing the actual system. chances are you will eventually get both. so I say get the 32X now and get a SMS later. Try Goodwill or a Thrift store their is always a SMS for around $10 (but not once have I seen a 32X.)

Was there more than one version of the Power Base Convertor, or does it only work with the Model 1 Genesis?

The ones I've seen won't fit in a Model 2 (or 3 for that matter...) Genesis.

I was looking at a third party one from LikSang ... seems to fit the model 2 system w/o a problem.

You mean Corpse Killer, the horrible Digital Pictures FMV game. It's not worth even $.15.

A few 32X games will cost you a fair amount of coin. Spider-Man: Web of Fire reaches upwards of $100 on eBay, as does Darxide (European). None of the 2 or 3 Sega CD/32X games are worth anything though.

The Power Base converter will work on the model 2 Genny; it just won't be a perfect fit. You'll have to slice off a bit of the separator to make it go in fully though. That 3rd party one you saw may be better for you.

Also, a PBC doesn't support saves in games like Miracle Warriors and Ys. Some people have told me that it does save in Phantasy Star but I've yet to confirm that.

for the PBC on a Gen 2, you just have to saw off that flap on the very back that hangs over (on a Gen 1, it just tucks along the outside back of the console). i have two PBC's, and one of them i hacked up...

The Insomniac

Or you could just unscrew the thing an place the whole PCB on top of your Genesis 2.

I prefer SMS over 32X, they both have their share of good games and bad games, but when it comes down to it the SMS has the best games over all. And besides, it's like having a Game Gear on your TV.

here's a link to the SMS adapter that works on all Megadrives and Genesis systems. Does NOT support mark 3 games though.

tototek.com sells an adapter that supports mkiii and sms carts. It does not support the FM sound that the Japanese had in some games tho....

I never see SMS units, but I've only seen one SMS game in the wild (and not in the mainland US, where I live).

Hopefully I can use my Power Base Converter in one of my Genny 2 units; worst comes to worst I can always take off the top of the Genesis 2 I guess :P

I wonder if that will work with a nomad. :D

Also you might be able to make a casing for it with a couple old genny sports cases, some JB weld and a dremel or similar tool.

If SMS games are so hard to find in the wild maybe I should start buying some of the games I keep running across. Two weeks ago I passed up no less than 6 SMS games in cases but without instructions at the Goodwill. I don't have a way to play SMS games yet so thats why I always pass them up. Although I do own a complete Thunder Blade that a friend gave to me.

I read somewhere that those things like the 32x don't work with the nomad/Genesis 3 b/c of a change in the chips.....

wouldn't know from experience though...

Yeah I realized my blunder after I posted, but didn't feel like editing it, figured someone would correct me on it. Thanks :) yeah that game sucks, but I always see it for around 15-24 on ebay.

Look closer. Those auctions that sell for $15 are for 24 copies of the game.

Spy Vs. Spy (oh that's a personal favorite of mine)

That was a card game, which I think won't work on the Power Base Convertor.

I'll echo that SMS/Power Base Convertor is much better than 32X. I was one of the suckers that bought 32x when it came out.
