I love shooters but I'm disappointed with this game. I'm not very good at the game. I have about 10 hours of playing time. I used all 11 credits to reach stage 5. The flying enemies fly and attack virtually the same way. They just look diifferent as I progress thru the game. Also the bosses: ugh! The same thing; they shoot lasers at you and you need to shoot at the core.

Not much of a classic gamer, are you?
You might even be trolling for all I know.

...but the way some of the reviews made Gradius V seem like the greatest shooter of all time...I'm just disappointed that's all. I love Raystorm, Xevious and those games are also have "repeating" style of enemies.

I know it doesn't quite have that classic gradius feel, but what was wrong with it? I think maybe the problem is that your using to many credits and just breezing threw it. You should try challenging yourself and limit the amount of continues you use.

I would guess that it's a faithful continuation of the Gradius games, but not really innovative in any real way. But shooters are so close to extinction that any release at all is a cause for celebration. But at least the game looks terrific and plays well.

I agree wholeheartedly with testament89. You need to limit your continues and practice. The newer generation of shmups require diligence and patience to achieve success, even more so than their ancestors on classic systems.
One of the best things about Gradius V is that it is so tough. You get your money's worth that way. When you get frustrated, put it down and clear your head for a while. I find that my first go is usually my best. Sometimes you need to "reset your head" to improve.

Of course the reason I played for so long is because I kept dying and wanted to see what the levels would look like. Also my fingers were hurting from holding R1 and the fire button all the time for the type 4. But I solved that problem by taping down R1 if I'm using the type 4 mutiple. On a bright note, Toy r UR had it for $29.00 rather $29.99. So I saved a almost a buck!
