Why indeed, considering that there is nothing in the game, as is, that requires the second screen and thus DS exclusivity ?

Indeed, it is about time. It's nice that America will finally have an official English version of every Final Fantasy. I know I'm a hell of a lot more interested in FF3 than any recent or future FF.

Yup...that's a smart business strategy. Make FFIII DS Exclusive, and lo and behold, every FF fanboy out there buys a DS to play it. It's easy money cause people are suckers. Hell, I'll buy it.

I'm glad FF3 is finally making it over here. It's relaly the start of the multi-world, huge quest FF games we all know and love, as well as the beginnings of the job system, Cid, etc.

While i'm happy that FF3 is finally going to be released in the states, I kinda wish it would have been on Playstation :(

It'd be nice to play 1-10 on my PS2, you know?

Ditto. Thought it sucked. Not enough story to make the game good.

It's about time! :D

From what I read FF3 was re-made for the WonderSwan like 1 and 2 was, but never released due to the poor sales of the unit.

Being the Final Fantasy nut that I am, I guess I'm going to have to buy a DS when this comes out. It does'nt say WHEN it's out, but hopefully not till next year when I have money. :D

Yeah. I've been wanting this game forever, but this is just stupid. FFIII was an 8-bit NES game, it doesn't need touchscreen support. This seems just like another way for Nintendo to sqeeze money out of fanboys. they should have released this game in the GBA FF collection. I'll buy the game when it comes out, but I refuse to buy a brand new DS just to play it. I'll get my DS used in the year 2006.

I don't understand why so many people get pissed off when a game everybody and their dog has wnated for ages is finally going to get an English language release.

It is a smart idea and it will help sales of the DS and it does help break the FF/Sony monopoly (with the few obvious exceptions). This is what companies do they sell things to make money. That way they become successful and then they can get all the great games released on their system (re: PS2). Isn't that what we all want - great games on a great system?

So if they sold it for the GBA it wouldn't be a ploy to get money from fanboys? This industry was built on fanboys and is to a certain extent run for fanboys.

Yeah, but then you're playing a fan translation... I don't know about others, but I'm really looking forward to there being an OFFICIAL English translation by the company who actually created the game.

I hope you're joking there because by that rationale porting it to the GBC isn't ripping off true fans but porting it to the DS is?! The fact is they didn't port it to the GBC so what do you want? Do you want them not to bother at all and leave everybody who does want this game to do without so that they are not ripped off?! @_@

BTW: what's Donkey Kong got to do with Square-Enix (the guys behind the port!)?

So what's the difference between a group of people translating the game in their spare time for free and a group of people SquareEnix of America hires to translate the game?

In either case you're still not getting the same people who developed the game in Japan or even originally wrote the Japanese script. And you're not necesarily getting people with any prior knowledge of the series.

Pedro Lambrini
10-08-2004, 02:36 PM
^ But at least the script would be officially sanctioned by the company behind the game and they are aware of the background of the series. Also, these guys would (presumably!) be professional writers/translators. That has to be at least a bit better than amateurs (however good their intentions) doing it in their spare time. And don't forget the game will have a graphical and sonic facelift as well as the interface being tweaked to make best use of the new H/W:)

You'd think most game companies would hire "professional" writiers for their game translations and, well Square actually has improved vastly over the years. (Might just be failing memory but I think Enix has always done well in hiring writiers.) But to say a professinal has to be better then the amatuer is sadly not always the case. I've known some damn good writers who translate roms and I've played plenty of offical American releases with shit poor scripts.

I'm not saying they shouldn't release Final Fantasy 3 over here, more RPGs the better, and graphical updates are always a plus. Hell if it's on the DS I think it would be really cool if they implemented some special battle system that took advantage of the hardware. But I'm just playing devils advocate to Aussie2B because well I know she's not real fond of fan translations. :P

What I meant was the GBA is still a very popular system, they could have released it for both instead of making is DS exclusive when it doesn't really need to be. It's not like FF3 won't run on the GBA hardware. I have no problem with new games being console specific, but this game has been around for like 15 years. I think it's wrong for a company to release a dated game on new hardware just to sell more systems. Maybe if Nintendo was a failing company and they needed the money I could understand it, but they're not. Why not release two versions, a straight port for the GBA and a fancy one for the DS.

FantasiaWHT
10-08-2004, 02:59 PM
Because there is no NEED to release it on such a powerful system as the DS. Unless they're doing a complete remake ala Lunar Legend, which I highly doubt, there's no reason it couldn't have been done on GBC, much less GBA.

Daria

Okay I know I didn't-at first.

But did anyone actually read the link:

While little has been revealed on the game, it's known that it will feature dual screen and touch panel support. The touch panel will come into play with how you collect crystals.

It's not just a port, they are utalizing the DS's hardware.

I'm still waiting for Castlevania II GBC, though! :D

Plus this remake should be sweet, but I hope they don't destroy the graphics.

Alright!

But after seeing FIVE different news about WSC FF3 and them not coming true, I still feel skeptical about this.

Now I have a reason to trade in my GBASP for a DS, considering I've blindly beaten the actual Famicom cartridge in my NES in Japanese and only made it as far as getting my first airship on a fan translated ROM.

I wonder if Nintendo will add some connectivity between this game and FFI+II: Dawn of Souls.
