So a couple of new trailers of the DS in action hit www.gametrailers.com , and after watching them several times I can honestly say the two screens have given me a headache. Granted I"m only watching a video of it, but with two screens that close constantly moving different images ... it hurts my eyes. Bad. Has anyone else watched it in action and suffered anything similar?
It just makes me wonder is this system is going to have something like the Virtual Boy effect where you can't really play it for extended periods.

Just imagine what the DS's two screens mean for cutscenes - you can play two scenes of a cutscene at once, thus cutting the amount of time the player must watch cutscenes in half! ... xD
The two screens will have their uses, and I'll manage it just fine, but I'm sympathetic with those who might find it disconcerting (could you imagine a game where you have to track two screens for something popping up - think Whack-a-Mole DS?). Myself, I'm still waiting for the system that can play dual-screen Taito games without any screen compression.

Well, I acyually played the DS three weeks ago in Dallas and noticed no such disorientation. Prior to the holiday season, I attend a vendor show that premieres the titles coming out for the holiday season. Kind of like a mini CES or E3 for retailers. I was able to play the Japanese version of WarioWare, a tech demo of a submarine with the lower screen being the panel to navigate the sub itself, and another demo which was air hockey where the paddle was controlled by the stylus or finger. I thoroughly enjoyed the latter and hopes that it makes it out in some form as a bonus or something. They were supposed to have more to show, but apparantly the weather in Florida prevented some of the software that was being shown at a similar show to arrive in time, so that was a disappointment.
Anyway, I own a VirtualBoy and most of the games, and this is not, in any way, the irritation that the VB could be when used for extended times.

I'm not really a huge handheld fan, but i'm looking forward to the DS, after all Nintendo have done great, with the Gameboy in all it's variations over the years..
I just watched the video's and had no problems, were you trying to look at both screens at the same time, or just still alittle hung over from the night before LOL
Also there maybe an option to dim, or turn off the bottom screen? who knows?
But the DS sounds good to me! :D

The videos of Mario and Metroid didn't give me a headache, but it is a little annoying to try and keep track of two moving screens at once. So far it seems the only thing this technological wonder allows you do do is not have to press start to get a map/item screen, seems kinda lame.

The Yoshi game seems extremely cool, how they transposed basically the original Yoshi's Island but made everything be done with the stylus. Very innovative.
I dunno, I think people who find it difficult to watch two screens at once will get over it. It's just a new skill to master. How difficult was it to play a game with dual analog stick controls at first? Or use 12 buttons instead of 4?

No it also lets you touch the game.
Imagine how great that works for a dating game! "ooh yeah I like to be touched there"

Hmm. Well. Don't split your vision between the two screen. It seems the bottom screen is of much lesser importance(like maps and stuff) so I don't see why you would be concentrating on it as much as the top screen.

You haven't looked at too many of the launch titles, have you? A lot more games are going the "action on the bottom" route rather than just using the bottom screen as a menu.

my point exactly I'm still having problems playing games that use so many buttons. the last think I need is two screens. I hope this thing fails because I can't handle three screens LOL
I also have no need to rub computer puppies bellies
