View Full Version : Will Nintendo make a system in a controller for $24.99?

You know those things they have, were it's an atari controller, and there is like 15 games built in, or it's a Namco controller and it has Pac Man and Galaga and stuff like that.
You've seen those "system in a controller" things for $19.99 and $24.99. Well I just saw one recently that was a Genesis controller. It had games like Altered Beast and Sonic and Kid Chameleon and stuff like that. It was licensed by Sega, but I don't think it was manufactured by them. The controller looked to be similar to a Genesis controller but the buttons looked really crappy.
It suprised me to see Sega with one.
I wonder if Nintendo would ever make one. They could make one that was exactly like a NES controller, and it would have like 10 of their NES games on it. Because it's by Nintendo, of course they would sell it for like $29.99 instead of the normal $19.99 or $24.99. And instead of putting 10 or 15 games on it, they would probably only put 5 of them on it.
Then they would sell other collored NES sticks that would have a different 5 games.
It would be cool if the controllers could somehow link together for 2 player games.
I was walking through the mall yesterday and saw a what looked like a dreamcast controller built with older games in it. Same concept as the others. I didnt stop to look, but anyone see that setup yet?? I didnt get to see what games it had on it either. As for the atari and namco ones, I think they are neat, I just havent bought any. Another thing to add to the list.

If they did, it would be in an NES Advantage stick I'd say..that way, you get two player mode easily when taking turns (i.e. Super Mario 1 or 3)
Yet I think Nintendo would probably never do such a thing sadly...
the only thing I still say we will ever get in an NES Collection Disc is on Animal Crossing (Cube) and grab yourself an Action Replay to get Punch Out, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Mario Bros, and Super Mario lol

Wow, this has been a topic before. I doubt that it is licensed by nintendo, but in the malls in Tennessee, Texas, California, and Virignia, I have seen a person with a booth\, and connected to it is a contraption that resembles a N64 Controller. It houses I think 78 games in it. Super Mario Bros. was one of them, Excitebike...ummm...I don't remember the rest. Although I do not believe it is licensed by Nintendo. One of those Kay Bee (Not KB Toys) rip off type things. I'm almost positive of it. I stood there to try one out, but I couldn't bring myself to kick that little rugrat bastard of a child off the Television. I hate kids that play in WalmArt/Mall/Sears forever. Give me a turn you ass.
Heh I never have played a demo in a store in my life. I either buy the game if it looks good, or rerad up on it theb buy it. The demo stands are reserved for the poor people! LOL j/k I was always to bored to wait, or too shy when I was younger to tell the kid to beat it after he was on it for years.

Nintendo will never make such a thing as long as they make good money selling the individual games back to us on new formats.
Think about it - $20/game on the Classic Series NES rereleases, or $30 for a joystick with half a dozen (or more) games?
That's where Sega and Nintendo differ. Sega has, for better or worse, taken their classic games and redone the graphics, putting them on the Sega Ages 2500 (yen) PS2 discs. They can sell the old stuff on their website (standalone Shinobi 3 for PC? Yes), or in a package like this, but apparently they felt they needed to get the public's interest back (not quite sure they succeeded, myself, but...) whereas Nintendo thought "who cares...we're popular enough that people will buy this stuff on the newer format.

yeah our local mall has a kiosk with like 6 plugged up, it was fun, and aside from the non lisenced games, the product felt cheap.
some arab guy was running the booth and kept pressuring me and the gf to pick it up, considered it for a moment since it is illegal and figured they may not be around for a while, but they were selling them for 70-100$ depending on how many games and weither you got the one with one controller or the 64 controller and sega controller wand the light gun

Yeah, I have seen the SEGA ones. I have also seen the N64 looking controllers with all the 8-bitgames in it.
ALL the time I get hassled inthe mall to try it out. I guess because the workers always see me with a videogame bag. I wouldn't pay $5 for those pieces of shit though. (Now maybe if the things were licensed and made by the actual company like Nintendo, Sega, etc. might be a little different, but still probably wouldn't buy it)

yeah, we have one of those kiosks in my mall, and frankly i don't know why nintendo hasn't shut those guys down yet. they're definitely not licensed.
on a sidenote, nintendo has done the controller thing.... kind of. i forget the name of it right now, the they released a controller system for the chinese market, and you would go to kiosks and download games directly to it. mostly n64 stuff i believe. i wouldn't mind having one of those things, but i would have nowhere to download games. heh

I would -- they're $30 here, and selling like hotcakes. At $5, I'd buy them by the armload and sell them to all the kids with new Nintendo shirts on.

I doubt Nintendo will ever make one as long as retro games are stupidly popular. Maybe in 10 years when no one gives a hoot about Contra we'll start to see those things. I could care less though, I'm not a huge Nintendo fan anyway and when it comes to the NES games I just buy the actual cart, cause there aren't too many NES games that re really worth having to me. And with Sega I would rather have the cart, because I'm a Sega fan and I want the actual game.

I found something called a "Pro Tech 64". Is this thing what you all are talking about??? I picked this up at the local thrift for $1.00 just to see what the heck it was as there is no place around here that sells them.
This one contains not only games by nintendo, but also atari and arcade games. There is even a Bomberman on the menu screen, but when you start it it's called "Boom Man". All of the roms are different from the originals (in a bad way) and the controller is extremely cheap.
Unfortunately I don't have a place to post a pic, and I have thoroughly searched the internet and cant find anything about it????
Send it to me. I can host it.

Yea, thats it except the label on the controller is a bit different, and yours has different games. Bomberman says Bomberman on the menu but Boom man in the game. This one even has KOF 98.

Bleh! I've been an Avid NES fan sine it's conception and I have some of the new Nintendo shirts....Doesn't make my knowledge of the system and it's history any lower than yours. Also doesn't mean I am susceptible to being ripped off. Also doesn't imply that I am easily stereotypical as you would so slyly assume.
Asses.

Hey, where'd you see that Genesis controller? I wouldn't mind having one of those, especially if it was actually an officially licensed product. I've just been boycotting all of the other ones, because I don't support piracy that blatant, and I'm just not nostalgic enough about Atari to care about the 2600 ones. But Sega? I'm all over it. I could care less about Nintendo unless they came out with a SNES one, then I'd buy one of those too, but that's it for them.
P.S.: I'm wondering if we'll ever see a Virtual Boy with all the games built into it, that would be really sweet, I would probably buy one of those too. Especially if it came with all the Japanese releases also, I'd really like to have Space Invaders for it, but I just can't afford to pay $300+ for a VB game yet.

If you've been there since it's conception, then you unfortunately no longer qualify as a kid (sorry) so I believe you would be exempt from the group Flack is referring to.
But im sure he would still sell you one :)

Nintendo will never make such a thing as long as they make good money selling the individual games back to fanboys on new formats.
Seriously. I know "hope springs eternal" and all that, but there's the bottom line. It's never gonna happen because Nintendo is going to milk every last cent out of their back catalog. And I can't say I blame them.
Besides, as has been mentioned, those 64000 in 1 controlers are practiaclly everywhere these days. Granted, they aren't exactly quality, but it seems to me like if someone really wants one, all they have to do is walk around the mall and there they are.

DRAT, we don't have any K Marts in Houston anymore. HPD raided the one on Westheimer where all the street racers were hanging out in the parking lot, arrested EVERYONE on the property whether they were in the store or in the lot and whether they had a receipt for merchandise they had bought, there was a HUGE public outcry and a HUGE class action lawsuit over it all, and that was the end of K Mart in Houston, because they were the ones who had made the request for HPD to raid them the way that they did. Most of their locations here had already been closed anyway, and after that fiasco EVERYBODY boycotted them, and they were simply run out of town. They even tore down the building so no one would have to look at it again.
