How much are you asking for Vampire Killer? I'm just a bit curious, I've been wanting it for awhile but I don't have a great deal of money. So if you want to let me know how much you want I'll thank about it, or if you might want to trade check out my trade page, there's a link in my signature. Good luck with the MSX system, if I end up getting Vampire Killer I'll need one as well! :D

In the last few weeks, two complete copy have been sold for close to 50US$. I'm asking 35$ shipped for my loose copy, good price if you consider the rarity of the thing.

Whoever, I will look in your stuff in case you got thing that i need, so a trade is also possible

Hmm...that's a European Vampire Killer cart. Not sure of the rarity of that compared to the Japanese one (which I recently bought for $20 loose). I'd imagine the Euro variety is less common by a good deal.

Well, it's not exactly the same game. Might be a fair price.

Yep, looks like I'm in the same boat now! LOL I'm buying the game and need an MSX2 system also. Any idea around what they sell for? Do they work fine on an American tv? By the way I love the Castlevania avatar, best series ever in my opinion!

Find a cheap one on eBay. There's lots of cheap ones to be found in Japan but then you have to pay S&H.

Thanks, I'll be certain to keep an eye out for one on ebay, if I watch em long enough I'm bound to get one cheap. Though I'll have to climb my way out of current debt first! Ah well, I've been wanting this game for a long time and can't wait to play it. I guess I should start figuring out what else in the MSX library I'd be interested in.

By cheap, though, I mean like $30 cheap for the bare unit. Needs cables too.

vision89
10-10-2004, 07:59 PM
Ahh, do you know what kind of cables it takes? Would an nes rf unit work, with a universal power supply maybe? Do you know if it uses a special joystick? Hmm, maybe I'll have to keep an eye out for one with all the accessories, any idea what one of those usually sells for? Thanks for the info!

I have a MSX2 unit. I'll check out that stuff if I can find my unit in my pile!

I do know that mine came with its own joypad (really primitive - like an NES controller, but only with d-pad and two buttons) and a HEAVY power supply.

Thanks, the joystick sounds like a Master System pad. Anyone know if this is fully compatible with American t.v.'s?

I found a website selling a bare MSX2 system for $19.99, not a bad deal! I would go ahead and get it but I'm still unsure where I'd find the parts. Here's the link

This might be the MSX2 you've been searching for! :)

I bought a really nice MSX2+ from that guy; there's a very similar one if you feel like dropping some cash.

See the Uber MSX2? The one with 256K of RAM and the video editor on top? I wish that was the one I'd bought. Turned out it sold for less on eBay, and I had been saving up for it too! Ah well, Lawrence has given me a bunch of great deals.

I don't see it, are you referring to the X68000? Ah well, I'll search the page for a few more minutes and see if it shows up. If you got a link I'd like to check it out. :D

Oh, my bad! Erm. I guess he's removed that page by now.

Nope, don't mean the x68000 Pro (I bought that one) LOL

Ugh! I'll have to wait till I get some extra money. I'm currently $200 in debt as a result of a Sega cd spurt (though I now have a CDX with Snatcher, Lunar and Popful Mail, as well I got Lunar for the Playstation and some Master System games, oh and Vampire Killer!) Is $199 a good price? I wonder how much a regualar MSX2 system sells for on ebay, I don't see any listed right now though.

Ed Oscuro

The regular MSX2 system should sell for FAR less; NFG's also got a totally bare MSX2 cheapie.

Here's the thing - the F900i unit was specialized hardware with lots of features found basically nowhere else outside of, say, high-end NeXt Color Turbo slabs (and that a good number of years later) and Sillicon Graphics workstations. I would've bought it just for the awesomeness of it, but couldn't as it turned out.

Regular MSX2s don't have the + after the name. Why the +? It's an extension to the MSX2 standard. MSX2+ Turbo is a further extension, and last of the MSX line. MSX2+ units are rather rare and few models were made; less than a dozen if I recall. Turbo units are quite (I hesitate to say "very" because I haven't tracked this like I should) rare and highly sought after; for that I believe there are four or less models ever made. There was no MSX3, though that was talked about a bit around 1999.

Very few games require an MSX2+ or a Turbo; Undead Line (which I own) has enhanced music on an MSX2+ and no extra features on a Turbo; there's really no reason for your average Konami MSX2 games fan to get a 2+ and no reason to get a Turbo. Unless you're looking at rare games, of course.

I should mention we had this discussion before, but it's been a long darn time and I see way too many topics in Search to sort through. Hopefully my answers are up to par.

Well the info is all interesting to me, I love learning about rare games and systems. For now I'll have to settle for seeking out the regular MSX2 and hopefully someday in the future, when I'm more financially secure, I'll be able to get the MSX2+ or Turbo. Anyways, thanks for the info! :)
