Hey all,
I thought i'd give, my new Snes collection website a cheap plug, since there are quiet a few snes collectors here at DP.

what the?? it's nice to see another snes site pop up, but what were you thinking when making the index page??? it's >700KB big which took me almost two minutes to load with my isdn connection
front pages MUST be <100kb if you want to attract people, seriously, as long as it takes that long to load the site i won't visit it, sorry, i can't say anything about the content because i don't feel like loading another meg per subpage again.

Site looks nice and loads fast enough with my connection, but youre menu isn't working overhere (IE 6), or are you still working on that :)

I use DSL, and usually it's slow as hell... but it popped up instantly for me.
The site looks awesome! Ten thousand times better than anything I could ever do.

It is alittle graphic heavy, but that can't really be helped (all images are small gif's to), i can only think your ISDN runs at max speed of 56K LOL
Also 1OOKb doesn't really get you anywhere when it comes to graphics,.. I might pull the top and bottom boarders as well? Not sure?

Yeah i pulled the links to the menu, just sorting a few things out.. i'm gunna have the basics up and ready in the next week or so, work permitting ;)

Looks great - I never got the hang of doing graphics as anyone who's wandered over to my spot on the net can verify. That blue pinstripe background does some wierd stuff when I scroll quickly on my TFT though - it's almost as bad as the one used on Gamespot!

I might change the background, someone else mentioned the background was getting abit blocky if she moved the page up or down quickly? it works fine for me, But i'v been lookin at it for so long (few months now LOL), it might be time for a change? ;)

I think it clocks in at just under 700kb, actually (659kb for everything in /main_files/). Loaded instantly for me.
Who's your ISP for this site? :D

So far, I love the layout/design of the site man. It looks great, and it loads up in seconds. I love it.

oh come one, please stop mentioning it loads up fast if you have dsl, OF COURSE it loads fast when you have a fast connection, but the main site is 700kb heavy and even if you have full speed isdn (7,8kb/s, which 25% of all users use) it'll take you 90s to load the first page, that's way too much and no serious or commercial website should take so long to load up, if a commercial website would take so long to load the programmer would be fired the same day the site was finished

It's a great looking site, very nice design.
However, I do have to agree with hydr0x, it loads extremly slowly on anything below dsl. I took a look at the site on a 56k connection and even though I liked the look of the site, I couldn't stand the 4-5 min wait just to get onto the front page.
ISDN, it's not so bad, but again it takes too long to load and anyone trying to browse a site with pages running on that kind of load time is going to get sick very quickly.
Again, it's got a great site design, but you need to reassess the content in terms of accessibility or else you're just alienating half your targeted audience. Anyone can put together flash looking, graphically intensive site, but whether or not it's practical as a widely accesible website is a different matter.
I mean, I'm a SNES collector and the site would normally be of great interest to me, but I'm not about to spend the time it takes to complete SMW just trying to load a few pages.
I'm not trying to put down your design, it looks great, but being a little more selective about graphical content and a bit of image optimisation would go a long way to making it a website, rather than a showpiece.
If you are feeling really ambitious, you could make a less graphically-intense version of the site for dial up people.

With some tweaking, i'v now got the overall size of the site down to 3OOKb ;) , So it should be alittle faster for the people with slow connections (:roll:)

300kb is much better, isdn can handle that, it's still a lot more than the net programming golden rules demand but it's way better than 700, thx for the affort :)
