Personally I've never been huge on Neo Geo mainly because it's a 2-D fighting-centric machine. Most games have been 2-D fighters or beat-'em-ups. At first there were games with a lot of variety (shooters like Viewpoint, platformers like Magician Lord) and they were all really, really good. Towards the end, though, Bust-A-Move and Metal Slug were the only things that really caught my eye.

This doesn't mean that I think SNK sucks; they've had plenty of great arcade and NES games throughout the years. I do think, however, that a Neo-Geo is a hell of a financial investment, with most games being quite expensive (many over $100), and unless you're really into fighting games you might not get a lot of use out of it. If you are into that, there are some pretty darn good ones out there (I'm sure people still rave daily about King of Fighters 90-billion or whatever).

A Neo-Geo CD I've heard is not a good way to spend your money, either. Others may know more (?).

I was nopt a fighting game fan until I got my Neo.

Funny how exposure to the finest of a particular genre can open ones eyes.

Metal Slug(s)
KOF's and
Samurai Shodowns alone are well worth the price of admission.

With the exception of the Slugs, some excellent KOF's and the essential Samurai Shodown 2 can be had on the cheap (less than $50). I use a phantom adpater, so I can play the cheaper MVS versions of the Slug games (around $50 instead of $1200).

If you want to play Neo on the cheap, your best bet is MVS, so get a cab, or get an MVS board consolized, so it will connect to a TV, and then buy only the cjeaper MVS games. Many as cheap as $20.

But I loves my snobby elitist AES. LOL
